A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

reading a new book!

passion for running category: running on Friday, September 24 2004

A dorky first arrived by courier yesterday. The first book I’ve ordered from Amazon.com! I know, I know. Amazon has been around for what, like 10 years and here I am ordering my first book?

It was recommended by a fella I’ve gotten to know from my gym. Not long ago, Clinton was 50 pounds overweight and now he’s clocking sub-19 minute 5k races!

The book is called Explosive Running and was written by PHD Michael Yessis. The book focuses on improving strength and flexibility but probably not in ways most people would expect.

So far, it looks EXCELLENT. I’ll keep you posted and try and share some things as I learn ‘em. One thing I will share right now is that he’s an advocate of BAREFOOT running. Interesting huh?

I’ve also added the link in the menu on the left side of my blog.

You met him at the gym? Uh huh. ;)

Sub 19 5K’s? Really? How old is this guy? That’s damn impressive to me. Time to go to the library and pick up that book. I’m too cheap to buy it. :)

Did you know he also wrote “Explosive Golf”? I just know that the Department of Homeland Security is going to get a notice when I request this book.

wow! I might just have to look up that book in the library as well. Umm, barefoot part – owie! A couple of months ago I was spectator at a triathlon in Montana where some of the runners ran barefoot on dirt trails. They made it look easy.

Yeah my high school cross country coach ran barefoot in high school, and we all thought he was crazy. Unless you’re on a beach, fuhgitabotit.
