good run, damn tired

Today was my fourth run in as many days and my third hard day in a row. Not really advisable according to the hard/easy school of training but I really wanted to make this week count. I think I have.

Yesterday’s massage
definitely helped. My calves were much looser today but my right shin was still really tight. Tomorrow will be a total rest day for my legs. I’ll spend an hour in the gym working core and upper body and that’ll be it.

Anyway, back to the run. My reference point was last weeks tempo run. I wanted to have a comparable time even with the harder week I had which included a 20 mile long run, a 7km marathon race pace run and a slightly slower than race pace running of my 9km four hill route.

It was VERY VERY difficult. Gretchen yelled at me a lot. She had to kick me in the ass a couple of times but, in the end, I did it – 6km exactly in 26:52. That’s a 4:29 min/km or 7:09 min/mile pace – precisely the same pace as last week.

But MAN, I’m really tired. This is the first time in a LONG time where I’ve been ecstatic to have the next day off from running. I’m not just talking happy. I’m talking JOYGASM folks. Only a few more days of hard training and, as Jon said, “let the taper madness begin”!

Here’s a pic of today’s effort.

I also got to run with Aaron today (2 miles nice and slow)! I was hoping to just go for a little rollerblade but my bud just had a cortisone shot and has knee surgery scheduled for October so he really wanted to run. Who was I to argue? :)

It’s always a treat to run with Aaron. Good times. Good times. As Dianna said, partners rock!

Did you make the chart for your tempo run yourself?…or do you plug Gretchen into your computer and have the info. transferred to the chart? Regardless….it was very impressive!

Seriously, you made it yourself? Wow…you’re an even bigger running-geek than I initially thought. LOL (~say the woman who just created an Excel spreadsheet to track her mileage on her different sneakers).

Is it just me, or is it funny to see a MILE-per-minute measurement in one axis, and kilometers in the other? ;)
