Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

Today was supposed to be a day in the gym and a break from running. Instead I found myself in the middle of a sprint race during my lunch break! Okay, it wasn’t a LOT of sprinting…

I was on a team of wagon pullers! No, not chuck wagons. Wagons of the “little red” sort. Edmonton’s United Way campaign is underway. Today, the Government of Alberta (my employer) held a cross-ministry fundraiser. A wagon pulling race and BBQ. The idea was that a team of runners pulled a wagon+passenger around an obstacle course in relay style. Each relay leg was 25 meters long and each team raced the course twice with their best time ranked against the other teams.

Of course, there were a couple of long government-style coffee breaks in between the races so lunch took pretty much all afternoon ( ;) that one was for you Dianna!).

Anyway, I was the starting leg on our team which meant I got the tough job of getting our wagon up to speed. It was great fun, a lot of money was raised and I only worried a LITTLE bit about getting injured.

Tomorrow is my last 20-miler (and really long run) before the marathon. Wish me luck.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good luck with your long run!! I hope you have nice weather (as opposed to the torrential down pouring in New England)
