runnin’ with a rollerblader
Aaron is still working on that knee injury and has not run for a couple months now. A situation that’s been difficult for me as well – I just plain and simple miss running with the guy.
As much as I miss running with Aaron, I need to support him with patience. After all, he’s extremely positive about getting back to running and is keeping fit doing other stuff like swimming and rollerblading which leads me to today’s post material…
Aaron and I have been spending our usual running time (Tuesday’s & Thursday’s) doing some light rollerblading. Good crosstraining but today I missed my lunch hour tempo run so I asked him to rollerblade and pace me through it after work.
It went well but it sure was strange! I’d be bustin’ my butt and breathing like a steam engine and he’d just be kinda gliding alongside. Then, a slight downhill would come along and he’d just kinda roll away on me. As I said to him on one of those downhills, those moments were (insert sarcastic tone here) “very motivating” but I persevered and, after a while, even managed to use it as extra motivation.
The run consisted of a 5 minute warm-up, 28 minute tempo run and 5 minute cool down. I pushed pretty hard. It seemed like I ran the first mile at my interval pace and then just hung on from there. I’m guessing the rest of the run was maybe at a 7:15 or 7:20 pace but I really can’t be sure.
It was great having Aaron pace me and he mentioned bringing his Timex Speed+Distance monitor “next time” so I’m already looking forward to that day.
It’s been a good week. Three one-mile intervals on Monday, my four hill route yesterday and today’s tempo run. I’ll finish out the week with a gym workout tomorrow and a 20 mile run on Saturday.
Next week I’m back on the bike. I took the weeks prior to and after the 1/2 marathon off on purpose and this week kinda slipped by me but I’ll be riding twice a week for the next three weeks for sure.
Thanks RBF for all the comments lately. Especially to you Richard. I like being pushed – especially at this point in the training!

As I said to my husband as he biked along side me on today’s 18-miler..
it’s just nice to have someone else out there, even if there isn’t a
lot of conversation going on constantly. And at times, I felt myself
being pushed to keep up with the bike. Good stuff.
