my wife the runner
My wife runs more miles than I do. Oddly, she does this without ever putting on a pair of running shoes.
You see, Lori stays at home with our kids while I go and work with adults (although it is debateable whether I truly do work with adults).
On TOP of that, Lori cares for other people’s children as well. Right now, she has two rug-rats in addition to our own. Usually she has three or four.
Lori RUNS after these kids ALL day. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate and admire her for that. On some nights, she goes out to the gym or to do some shopping. Whatever the reason, it’s so she can enjoy some well-deserved ALONE time. When she goes, I get to look after the kids – just our TWO kids for only a couple of hours and it tuckers me out.
How in the hell would I EVER handle being with four, five or six kids for 8 to 10 hours?!?!
Some days Lori gets tired and frustrated. Some days she feels at the end of her rope. Some days she wonders if it’s all worth it. Today might be one of those days.
I’m writing this highly non-running post to let my wife know I appreciate and love what she is doing for our kids and for other children. Her running AMOUNTS to something – especially for our kids.
Leave a comment for Lori and tell her how right I am.
I know she’ll appreciate it.

Lori, what you are doing is THE most important thing you can do. I did it, too, even watching other people’s kids in my house. It IS at times exhausting and confining, but all these years later, I am SO glad to have had those wonderful years with my kids. I wouldn’t have traded that time for anything. It is SO worth it.
