Apparently, Thor tied an anvil to my ass before my run today.

It was 73 fahrenheit/24 celcius today with no breeze so basically 1.7 CAJILLION degrees for Canadian runners right now. Keep in mind we go from temperatures as cold as -35 or even -40 in the winter so the overall change is huge for us!

I biked this morning (yay – still going!) so I was already a bit tired before the run but I really want my body to strengthen to the point where I can do both and still get good quality running in so I decided to push it a bit for today’s run…

…it just did not happen. I warmed up for five minutes and then ran a mile in about 7:30 but just couldn’t maintain the pace beyond that.

I even had to walk three times. Of course, 10 seconds into my first walk break a gal met me on the trail. The route is a loop and she obviously was doing it in reverse since she met me AGAIN on my second walk break…

Was that a smug grin I saw on her face?! My inner voice screamed out,

“Did YOU bike 16k this morning?!” and

“Do YOU have to ride ANOTHER 16k home?! and finally,

“Did YOU run 18 miles on Saturday?!”

Breathe Mark breath – just let it go – calm down Mark. It’s going to be O-K.

The end result for today was 37 minutes of running for an undisclosed number of miles (and you ain’t gettin’ it outta me!).

The BEST part of this post to me is about seeing the other girl on the run. That happens to me all the time. Dead center of a walk period, I see a female runner coming the other way. For whatever reason, I get very self-conscious. I want to yell out, “I’m running, just not now.”

I use that as part of my mental training, as a reminder that I still care what other people think, and that’s not what I’m about any more.

That’s one thing I liked about wearing shades. No matter what you are doing, you have that cold impersonal look as if what you are doing is infinately more important than what they are doing. So wear shades. Or wear your marathon medal. Say “See this, Baby! This ain’t from the Mardi Gras! I REALLY earned it!” Ok, this last part may be over the top.

You guys are hillarious! She’s likely glad you’re moving so slow so that she can check out your cute little cherry tomato six! LMBO I’m totally guessing since no one has posted pics of their runner behinds! ~tears from laughing~

However, see what happens to cute lil’ ole me when the big, bad Infantry boys run by in a platoon and I just slowed down to a walk…”I can run your little soldier butts into the ground!” Well, okay I usually can’t, but you should see me hold my head up and make that tough girl face as they pass me en masse, waving and smiling at me ever so smugly! Shades it is Jon. LOL :)

I’m obviously having way too much fun tonight…trying to find the disco version of pink floyd online right now! ;)
