long run and thoughts on the past week
Tom and I met up at the Kinsmen Sport Center for a long slow distance run this morning. We chose to run the paved path heading east because it is an extremely challenging, hilly route and because it has markers every kilometer so it takes the guesswork out of distance and pacing.
We both started out feeling pretty shabby and both complained about sluggishness but we got into a better space around 5km.
We maintained a 9:30 minute-mile pace from start to finish. Well, not exactly accurate – we had a one minute negative split on the return home which I’m very happy with considering the awful 16 mile run I had two weeks ago and that this route is very very hilly – I can’t even begin to describe how hilly it is! Have I mentioned it is a very hilly route?
My brains came along for the long run this weekend – I ate well last night, had some cereal in the morning and was well hydrated. This, again compared to not doing those things well for the bad 16 miler two weeks ago. So, as Jon put it, I did not run “stupid”!
Only bad thing about the run was the absence of Aaron. Don’t get me wrong – Tom and I really had a great time but it was weird not having the third part of our posse around. In the past few years, I can count on one hand the number of Saturday’s he and I have not run together so this felt weird. I hope his knee has a speedy recovery.
I’m sitting on the couch feeling only slightly sore and pretty happy with the way this week went. I finally introduced bike commuting into my life and managed to keep up with most of my running schedule.
Total running mileage for the week was about 35 plus about 60 new kinda miles on the bike – wahoo!
And (still thinking about Aaron) no injuries either – you gotta like that.

Congratulations Mark, this sounds really like a successful week for you (so, sit down on Sunday and relax). And, don’t forget to mention that you didn’t disregard your blogging
Actually, it’s right the opposite, you blogged sooooooooooo much and got pretty much feedback.
