mish-mash day
Got up this morning determined to bike to work but I couldn’t fit my dress shoes in my backpack. Argh – getting this bike thing going is not going!
So, after pissing around for 15 minutes, I finally ended up driving to work but I was mad so I told myself I was gonna make up for the morning’s foibles – I arrived at work and promptly went for a 20 minute run.
Then, after getting stuck in a stupid meeting, I went late in lunch hour to the gym where I ran another 20 minutes on the treadmill (I absolutely HATE treadmills) and did some leg weights. Ok, now I was feeling better. During the workout, I chatted up a fellow I’d met several times but never talked to. Turns out, he was in Corporate Challenge and captained the Telus team – tenants in the building I work in.
So, naturally, we got talking results. I asked how things went and he said, “oh, I had a crappy run and came in just barely under 32 minutes”!
Just under 32 minutes!! Hokey smokes folks – that’s around a 6 minute per mile pace!!
So my response was, “Well, I THOUGHT I had a good race and came in just under 40 minutes but now I’m not so sure!”
He (Trevor) was kind and modest which always makes things easier – truth is I still feel good about Corporate Challenge but this is one of those examples where you will always find runners to look up to and who are eager to share and support you at whatever level you are at…just one of the things I love about running.
Now, I was feeling good about the physicality of my day and the best part hadn’t come yet – my after work run with Aaron. We headed out for 40 or 45 minutes at a better than leisurely pace – man I LOVE that new path behind his place that leads to the High Level bridge.
So, a crappy start to the day just got better and better.
You gotta like that!
(I just realized I ran THREE times today – definitely a first!)

Wow, three times a day!!! That’s really great. Usually when I have picked my next marathon to run, I sit down about 8-10 weeks before race day and work out my training plan I always think about a 70+ mileage per week and how I could organize that, thinking of running early in the morning before work and running late in the evening when kids are in bed… But till now I couldn’t manage it (you know, lack of discipline and, possibly, lack of organizing talent)… but you did it today! I will try next time maybe in autumn…
Good luck for your next 3TimesADayTrainingDay
