Glad he's okay. God, that is scary. Cars scare me to death. Less as a runner than they did as a cyclist, but still, we all need to be careful.

As far as ID goes, I have a pet ID tag that I had made at Petco, and attached it to my shoe. Funny, I know, but the pet IDs are cheaper than the fancy ones in the back of Runner's World, and work just as well.

Wow. Just....wow.

I came very close to being hit once; the guy was flying down the street and was going to half-assed run the stop sign, expecting things to be clear. My view was obstructed from cars parked along the street he was on. I had to jump backwards to avoid being hit...it's very sobering. Unless you're a fellow runner, cars just are. not. looking. for. runners.

Mark! How very disturbing!

Another thought about the ID issue and a tip that I teach my clinic members is: here in Edmonton the Police and Paramedics WILL check the inside of Runner's Running Shoes, ie. the inside sole that is removable for ID. Use a permanent marker and place your name, emergency phone number and blood type on this removable sole. IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Thanks for sharing your story Mark.

Thanks for the wake up call Mark. We can get so comfortable in our routines that we forget that it can be dangerous out there, especially those of us who run alone.

Most importantly, I am glad to hear our running "brother" is doing OK.

thanks Reba - you are right, I would have wondered about him until I'd seen him again which thankfully was sooner rather than later. Scary stuff.

Mark, thank you so much for sharing that story. Holy bananas but it amazes me how fast our lives can go from routine to OMG what's happening?! I'm glad you had the opportunity to speak with *Michael* afterward, I can see you are the kind of person that truly cares so that must have helped you feel better.

Even though I'm retired from the military I still wear my dog tags when I run, I used to think I was a bit of an army nerd for doing it but really it's such a simple form of ID and now I'm thinking it's a good idea to hang onto.
