Shut Up and Run.

one week down…11 to go. March 09 2009

Filed under: Running — pamalamadingdong @ 10:04 am

Today is beginning of week 2 for our X workout.

Surprisingly, there are definate changes that have occured in just 1 WEEK!

Suddenly, most of my back pain is gone (not that iwas extreme but I did have a sore back after work etc)

(hmm I feel as though I mentioned this before)

Chris too is have less back problems….he suffered an injury 2 years ago, and is suddenly waking up in the morning virtually pain free.

AND! He can touch his toes!

I can touch the ground in front of mine.

And in yoga I can get pretty close to accomplishing the “plough” position…which looks REALLY REALLY weird.

Tonight is pull up hell.

So we’ll see how that goes…I certainly can’t do 20.

My goal is 2.

Pathetic I know…but I’ve never had a lot of upper body strength.

Last night was stretch. I hour of stretches.

It oddly required a lot of strength but it was very relaxing…and encouraging to see our increased flexibility.

Am home with a slightly ill Noah. His cold is gone but his cough is lingering.

It;s the first bit of school he’s missed this year so he can afford to stay home one more day.

I am totally dragging his butt outside for a walk though!

YO! GAH! March 06 2009

ok.
Seriously?
Tony’s (cause we are on a first name basis now….or at least that was I call him when I scream “FUCK YOU TONY!” at my TV)…anyway…Tony’s Yoga dvd is tough.

I haven’t done a lot of Yoga…I’ve done a little pilates but that was years about and I’m not sure how qualified my instructor was.

He provides a beginner version right up to advanced and warns you to not go beyond your comfort zone (I’m sure he meant physical but I like to think the mental was implied)
There was much of it we sat out…mostly cause we we couldn’t follow along all tied up like a pretzel…we went slow…and watched a lot.
We did quite a bit…and it involves WAY MORE strength than I imagined.

BUT with what we did do yesterday….even the beginner moves..my body feels FANTASTIC today.
And for the first time in literally years my back does not hurt after work.

A seriously….WTF?

Mind you, we did 2 dvds that involved different areas of the back.

So maybe the two combined?

Tonight is legs and back.
Pray for me.

Howdy! I have returned after a TOTALY system crash…ugh…motherboard with a SHORT.

Not pretty. But we’re up again now…and I managed to save all of our data.

Due to icy icy like too icy for yaktrax even sidewalks and roads…running has be a minimum…even the snow is too deep on the sidewalks to run….it’s maddening.

So I searched to find an alternative.

Mr Horton seemed to be a good fit.

Today is day four of P90-ohmygodkillme-X.
days 1 -3 have kicked my ass. But in a good way. I’ve been a bit sore the next day…but luckily since you do a different part everyday you are still reasonably functional.

His cardio is good! You actually sweat...like a lot and sometimes cry…. a lot

Tonight is Yo!ga X.

Which I will assume involves very little OHMS and a lot “oh my fucking god I HATE YOU T0NY H0RT0N”s.

Wish me luck! Happy downward dogs.

Ouch & DUH! November 25 2008

Filed under: Running — pamalamadingdong @ 9:38 am

So I ran the other day.

I had decided early in the day I was going to run and so around 5pm I just threw on some running clothes and left.

I can just share with you the fact that I was NERVOUS. Nervous to run. Duh. Anyway I was terrified I would run 10 feet and have to walk.

I knew it wouldn’t be an easy run.  And it wasn’t going to be far.

So I chose my walk route of about 4.30 km…perfect…not too flat (nothing is around here) and I set out.

I start going down hill just for a bit..so I immediatley felt fantastic.  Once i get to the bottom (it’s maybe 200 ft from my house…or something) it’s 1.5k of FLAT with a little bit of a decline mixed it.

Still felt great…a slow easy pace…iP0d helping me along.

I took a tiny walk break at the end of the 1.5k cause i knew that was the end of the flat basically.

The remaining 3.7k are basically up hill….there is a bit of a break but mostly it’s hilly.

But I ran it.

I mean the biggest hill took me a few walk breaks (which I hate taking on a hill…..hate it)

But I pushed myself, and I still felt great.

I think I expected to feel like an enphezema patient or something.

blah blah blah…got home….sweating like a loonie….did some stretches….ate some dinner. Had a shower.

A great night sleep.

I woke up the next morning, stood up and immediatly regretted it.

OH MY GOD. It was like my first half marathon…maybe WORSE!

WTF? I haven’t been able to walk right ever since.

I am MUCH better today but not 100%.

I walked that night (the same route) thinking it would help, but it turns out I just ended up being pulled around by my dog and walked like I had braces on my legs (maybe I should have?).

Yesterday I skipped a run & a walk in hopes of letting them heal.

I feel better today but I can still feel my muscles.

Do you think I should run??

I’m totally running.

Shut up & Run…can I get an AMEN? April 18 2007

So I shut up & ran.

It was hard. And F-ing hilly as this part of the country tends to be.

But it was good. And my legs are like jelly.

I did 5k in about 43 minutes, not stellar…but it’s done. And i feel pretty damned good about it.

Of course half way through my run and up my 2nd hill I started to feel really depleted and I thought WTF? I mean I know I’m out of shape but COME ON.

And then I realized. Yeah.

It was 12:45 and I hadn’t eaten a bite all day.

Tea? Sure.

Water? yup.

Food? NO.

Why? Because my mother called and invited Noah over for lunch today. Which was her famous (and famously UNhealthy) newfie fish cakes. These things have made me actually vomit when i was pregnant JUSt from being in the same room and them while they were being prepared.

So obviously I was not going to eat a fish cake…pre-run.

Anyway…I was a hungry hungry hippo.

But I finished it anyway.
