Home Alone! January 22 2008

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 1:40 pm

that’s right.

I am home alone.

And I just ate really garlicy garlic bread.

I am sitting here…drinking tea. With NO ONE to (talk to) bother me.

except for that large black curly haired dog whose face is half covered in dried on gravy (don’t even ask).

yeah, that’s right.

Home alone.

With mountains of laundry to fold and put away…dishes to clean.

And NO excuses to be had.

boo hoo.

hmm…boring much?

tomorrow my sister (not feffie) and I are snowshoeing across one of the lakes in town and will be partaking in a fire…some goodies and a bottle of wine (white for her..red for me). I may forgo the wine for hot chocolate because I am not much of a day time drinker. Also…the windchill will be -30C in the morning..which means more like -20C by the time we get going…and wine is NOT really on my mind then.

It’s sounds so adventurous to be snowing across the lake to an island…climbing to an isolated area and building a fire…just two chicks and some snacks.

But in reality it’s not that cool at all. We’ve specifically chosen this lake because it’s about half way between our houses and we can see THE MALL from it. Seriously. We aren’t going THAT far into the bush or anything.

But then again it’s mostly because we can do with it without the need for a car and we will still get a cell signal…incase something goes wrong (like we need a cork screw).

Cheers to winter.

I know you hate me for not hating winter..and snow and cold. BUT I LOVE IT.

I don’t think I could live anywhere that didn’t have REAL winter. Like snowstorms that dump so much snow that you have SHOVEL your way out your front door kind of winters…LOVE IT

Who knew i was such a Northern girl?

Nothing more fun than piling on layers and boots and going out for the day in -20C with the kids and a picnic.

You would not believe how exhausting a day like that is.

Everyone is beat when you get home rosey cheeked and dead tired.

I’m not an ice fisher…but only because it’s BORING. B-O-R-I-N-G. I mean the only reason I even pretend to fish in the summer is because it often involves a boat and sometimes snacks.  Last summer I caught 2 fish…both were about 3 inches long…and no edible.  And both times I squealed like a girl and made Chris take them off and put them back in the lake (of course). I don’t really want to catch anything…I just like the action of casting (or whatever). I’m a fake fisherman.

Imagine this.

-20C at least, you ….TONES of clothes…a short teeny little fishing rod and an ice auger.

You drill a hole.

You drop you line in the hole.

You sit and wait.

and wait.

and wait

and wait.

Oh look a fish…you bring it up and toss it on the snow.

you drop your line.

and wait

and wait

and wait.

and freeze.

NO FUN.

BORING!

Kids home from school sick..all week..send help! January 18 2008

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 11:21 am

there have been duvet and furniture forts all over the living room…we are talking 4 duvets various comforters and like 150 pillows. Plus every chair from the dining room….an end table, the couch a rocking chair and noah’s desk.

It even has a panic room.

After constructing the first fort, brendan dictated step by step instructions to me that I had to copy down on a blank paper…and he insisted I leave enough room at the bottom so he could include his own diagram.

he titled it…FORT SCHEMATICS

There has been a LOT of soup.

A lot of popsicles.

A lot juice.

and you know.,..they aren’t even really that sick.

Noah has a cough (way worse at night) that I think will bug him after eating lunch or running around in the gym or after recess. So here we are…at home.

ANYWAY in other boring totally unrelated news…Chris has recently discovered that he can resurrect our dead-dead snowblower.

FOR CHEAP!

$150 will buy us a NEW motor…and will make our $1200 snowblower like NEW!

HUZZAH!

I ran a little last night…like a SERIOUS little. With my dog….just to feel it, you know.

And I thought FUCK YEAH! I can totally run again.

I was excited because even though it was flat…and even though it was probably only about 1km…I felt OK. Good even. No heaving. And? I was wearing my snowboots…or rather Feffie’s snow boots (which totally suck by the way) because she had STOLEN mine.

Anyway…this morning?

there is about 3 feet of snow blanketing everything. You can’t even SEE the sidewalks (where you totally have to run here in the winter on account of icy patches and near death experiences with sliding cars.) So I think i will take the Noah out for a snow show later today.

but hey, it IS a start.

Noah just this second…ok…about 50minutes ago woke up with a croupy cough.

I HATE THE CROUPY COUGH.

It sounds so painful. And seal like.

And it only happens once or twice in the winter, but the last time it happened he wasn’t even sick during the day.

Like, he could’ve gone to school.

Poor dude.

He had his swimming lessons tonight. He’s 5 and is already taking his lessons in the deep end! It scares the crap out of me.

That was totally unrelated.

I am so out of practise.

Poor Brendan joined the school hockey team and was all geared up (literally) to play today when he realized his skates were TOO small.

DUH!

I know.

I KNOW!

God.
