Shut Up and Run.

zzzZZZ August 28 2007

Filed under: Parenting — pamalamadingdong @ 1:30 am

tomorrow my new running program is to start.
nice and slowly.

however i am still awake, with a noah that has a sore tummy.

we are camping out in the rec room watching tv.

not sure what time we’ll get back to bed…I do know that Chris gets up for work in a few hours and will wake us unintentionally if we are down here.

his colour seems better and the cramps seem better and the chills are gone and i think i will try to put him back to bed, poor soul. nothing is worse than a tummy ache when you’re 4.

i pray to all that is holy that this is not a bug that has to work it’s horrible evil way through everyone.

zzzz

p.s. to those who care, Noah’s behaviour has improved 100% percent…ok…well maybe 75% It turns out that mommy and daddy stress totally effects the little ones.

DUH!

Sometimes I’m so stupid.

Dinner Conversation August 22 2007

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 10:13 am

Chris took the kids fishing after work yesterday afternoon and I took a strudel to my mother and chatted with her while they were gone.

We regrouped for dinner after they were all fished out (didn’t catch a thing they almost never do).

At dinner they all told their tales of jumping off rocks into the lake (probably why they don’t catch a thing) and how far the dogs swam.

They also told me about how just before they left Chris threw a stick for the dogs, only this time Dori got there first and was on her way back…stick in mouth…when she encountered Sascha. Sascha immediately POUNCED on Dori and started to get a little aggressive with her OVER A STICK. No biting, but we’re talking teeth bared and some ugly snarling. Apparently Chris strolled over and gave him a good shove and it was all over. The conversation that followed was close to being the most bizarre I have ever had with my children and husband at once.

Me: Sascha needs to be fixed. That would probably eliminate little episodes like this. Poor Dori.

Chris: Yup, we’re gonna have to get his balls cut RIGHT OFF ::looks around the table for reaction from the kids..BECAUSE HE’S 12::

Brendan: bahahahahahahahaha

Noah: Can I have them?

Me/Chris: Have what?

Noah: Sascha’s balls, can I have them?

Me: You want the dogs testicles? Why? What will you do with them?

Brendan: *no sound, just vibrating laughter…might actually be choking on dinner*

Noah: I will put them on my desk!

Me: …

Chris: …

Brendan: *between gasps for air* he can put them on a plaque…..hahahahahahahahaha, they can be his paper weight.

Noah: Noooo not my desk…I mean my…um….ummmm

Chris/Me: …

Noah: my DRESSER! yeah that’s what I meant..my dresser.

At this point I am slightly disturbed and decide to move on with the conversation…I should’ve just changed the subject, because seriously..am I NEW or something? Gawd.

Anyway….

Me: You know, they can just put fake ones in…so Sascha can still keep his dignity and his dangly bits will remain dangly.

Brendan…hahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Noah: ?

Chris: We should get them to do that, only instead of pingpong balls they should use HARMONY BALLS

At which point brendan fell right off his chair, and sascha started hitchhiking back to London.

Labradoodle-do August 21 2007

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 11:54 am

In Jan or Feb, our Boomer died.

On the kitchen floor. (we will NEVER do that again, next time I won’t feel guilty about letting the vet put her/him down…cause dude…that was NASTY)

And a few months later we tried to adopt a shephard cross (adorable! well behaved dog) But, OH RIGHT! Brendan was allergic to her. HORRIBLY. And we gave her back to the shelter.

About that time we started looking for a more allergy friendly dog. Our Dori is a mini poodle cross and doesn’t bother Bren’s allergies at all. Ever.

We decided on a labrad00dle, we like having a larger breed around (Dori is not our usual dog type but we love her anyway….Shut Feffie..be nice to her!) and they are good for chasing bears and racoons away.

I searched searched for a breeder in our area and somehow stumbled across a lady 8 hrs away, with a 1 yr old puppy that she could not keep any longer (divorce, carpel tunnel and moving to an apt). The only catch was that she was VERY particular as to who could have him.

After at least a month of email exchanges and phone calls. I sent her my flickr address so she could see pictures of my family in action.

She decided we were the family for her Sascha.

Chris drove down to meet him. He immediately fell in love and brought him home with the understanding that if it didn’t work out she would come and pick him up immediately.

So here he is the day he arrived.

And I was a little concerned that there wasn’t so much a LAB in there but more of a rotweiller.

But he turned out to be lovable and goofy. He CLEARLY needs to be neutered because, man that is offensive!

All hangy and dangly…GOD…put on some pants or something.

Gross!

Anyway, all that hair was impeding his ability to swim. He was sinking, like a giant hairy stone. So we got him groomed.

When he came home with the haircut I laughed and laughted and laughed because, hello? He doesn’t even look like the same dog.

But he does look like a lab.

A nearly bald lab.

Anyway, he’s decided we are his new family, even though we’re gonna get his nads cut off.

Dori is becoming less and less irate with the idea.

A picnic in pictures August 20 2007

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 9:59 am

yesterday we went for a picnic…well not really a picnic.

We went into the bush and found a FABULOUS spot. We let Noah jump off the rocks.

We made a fire, roasted some weenies. They did some fishing.
Generally we had a great time. I was relaxing and quiet and peaceful.
Here! LooK! Pictures! I haven't resized anything so if you click the pop up it will be huge.
WP is not co-opertaing with the lazy-image-layout syntax. Grrrr. So I apologize for the jumbled look.

We were relatively stress-free, which is welcomed change these days.

other than it being a treacherous trail to get there, it has become our new favourite spot.

I will upload the rest onto my flickr…because WP hates me today.

Stuff August 14 2007

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 9:05 pm

aaaaaaah

silence.

The kids are asleep and I am alone for a moment. It doesn’t happen much these days.

I can honestly say this summer has worn me out. It’s been fun but difficult. My troubles with Noah are not completely over.

It’s like he’s finally found his terrible two’s…at 4 1/2.

But we’re working on it. Not perfectly of course, but it’s coming.

Once the structure of school is upon us again, I’m sure things will even out even more.

It’s just that, I looked forward to this summer as the last of his little boy days. We won’t have time home alone anymore after september. He and Brendan will be gone to school all day.

CAn you even believe that?

My little Noah is going to school full days this year.

He’s so different from his brother, more athletic, less analytical, more snuggly. He’s very literal in his thinking. He shares my wacked out logic (poor kid), and also my temper (yikes).

I think that is our final hurdle in his behaviour, his temper. It’s not like he’s always mad but boy oh boy watch out when it comes. You won’t know what hit you.

Brendan is going to be in grade 6.

Grade.

SIX.

When the hell did that happen? He is by far the smartest person I know (although Feffie’s friend Rene is pretty smart…it could be close), and I’m not just boasting. Most people that meet him will later comment to me that Brendan either taught them something they didn’t know (weather, dinosaurs or canadian beaver behaviour) or that they are just amazed by his level knowledge in general. He’s a smarty pants that’s for sure.

I feel like most of this summer was wasted. Wasted with me stuck in a depression rut.  Wasted with Chris and I trudging through so much of our own shit that we didn’t do what we wanted. We didn’t camp every weekend like we had planned.

We did have many many picnics and many many many trips to the beach. We spent 2 weeks with Feffie and Tracy which was always exciting.

The kids think we had a fine summer, the last week was boring due to my laid-up-edness in the ankle department.

3 weeks left…hmmm….we get one or two camping trips in I am sure.

just babbling.

Lost 3 lbs

Foot is feeling better.

A short walk today.

Longer one tomorrow.

Planning on running again once the boys are back in school.

I know I know, you’ve heard it all before.
