Running Commentary

Shut Up and Run.

Summer Holidays June 29 2007

Filed under: General — pamalamadingdong @ 11:08 am

Have officially begun.

Brendan had his last day of school yesterday and Noah had his the day before.

Both boys passed with flying colours. Noah’s teacher added the comment “There should be more Noahs in the world”.

And Brendan got a A+ in science as usual, which makes me very proud.

So it begins. Me at home with the boys for the summer, and if I can get them to stop fighting we might actually have a good time.

God help us.

They are at this stage where their age difference is too big to make them friends and they are constantly at each other’s throats. Brendan teases Noah enough that Noah will lunge at him and try to kill him.

It’s very tiring.

I have threatened them with daycare twice already today!

I’m sure we’ll find our groove eventually.

I think it’s time for a walk!

how lucky I am to have Grandma — they get threatened with being sent over there if they drive me nutso. But she’s got the PS2 and more cable channels than we do, so I’m not sure why it’s punishment.

They somehow can instigate fights just by looking at each other. If only their powers could be used for good and not evil!!

oh, and the first thing that came to mind — just now getting out of school?! Wow — my oldest has been out for a month now! And the little one was done in May. Of course, they go back on the 14th of August, which is stupid. Sheesh!

SUMMER CAMP!

So what DO you guys do in the summer? Must be tough on the igloos and the polar bears…

Philip Says:

Please, make it their problem and not yours.

Steel yourself for a week of feeling like the most hard-nosed evil mother in history, but explain to them the consequences of their behaviour, tell them they get one warning per day (or whatever you decide) and then it’s ___________ (whatever draconian punishment you can think of - I can suggest quite a few that are productive, worthwhile, and sure to make them start to see how their actions have consequences) and then STICK TO IT.

You wouldn’t have put up with this when they were toddlers . . . you have to go back and remember your mommy skills from the “old day.”

I’m happy to offer ideas, or compare notes.

Good luck!

There is 5 1/2 years between me and my sister……

…..even now, I still lunge at her to try and kill her!

She doesnt get the hint though….she is a little slow

LOL! Don’t bother reasoning with them, Pam. Children are not small adults. They are more like small wild animals. The lion tamer doesn’t reason with the lions. Stick to the tried-and-true, “One” warning, “Two” warning, Strike 3 - to the bathroom for 5 minutes. After a day or two, the word “One” from you will shut it down quick. Animals hate being stuck in the bathroom.

If that doesn’t work? Make them do pushups.

Brendan Says:

How I envy you. The most common phrase on my daughter’s report card was “does not work to her potential.”

Of course, that was the most common remark on my report cards when I was in school.

I should call my parents and apologize to them.

JuJuBee Says:

I miss you.

Also…summer is here as well. Send lots of booze.
