My Brendan… May 03 2007

Bren has a science project due today. They were allowed to work in partners if they wanted. Brendan had partnered with someone for about one day. He had decided ages ago that he wanted to build a trebuchet. All was well in the world. Less than 24hrs after the partnership his friend called to break up with him. He didn’t think a trebuchet was scientific at all, and so would be doing the PEPSI CHALLENGE instead.

Yeah.

Brendan is often misunderstood or not understood at all it’s not funny. As of yesterday the day BEFORE all projects were due, there were no less than 4 students begging to be his partner. Now that all the work is done, and they’ve heard he is bringing a 6ft tall siege weapon.  Infact he was nervous that someone would just COME UP to the front with him and pretend to have been his partner all this time.

Anway he added some Brendan humour to his project. On his materials list he included “Dad–for power tool usage and heavy lifting” and also “Newton’s 3rd law of motion.”

How many laughs to you think that will get. He think it’s hilarious.  A little physics humour, met with the baffled blinks of the average 5th grader.

I’m sure his teacher will get it, he is only one that gets most of Brendan’s humour.

He also tried to bring along a bed sheet so he could cover the trebuchet and whip it off at the right moment and shout “BEHOLD! The TREBUCHET!”

Who’s child is this?

Knowing When The Ship is Sinking May 01 2007

New manager had a surprise visit from head office today.

It did not go well for her.

She got in lots of shit.

And our district manager will be here every 2nd wednesday for the next 2 months to give her the “direction” she needs

DUH!

Miss bossy pants doesn’t like to listen to “direction”.

The ship is sinking and I am ever so glad I jumped early enough.

Also? WE TOLD HER SO! SOOOOO MANY TIMES!

BORRRING

Nothing to write about. Maybe it’s a spring thing. We’ve spent out recent weekends getting the yards ready for playing. And getting the gardens ready for planting.

I am attempting a vegetable garden this year. This is my 2nd atttempt in about 10 years.  My first attempt was in the city many many years ago (like 10? duh!) and I didn’t manage to grow anything but a teeny lumpy carrot and a one stalk of kidney beans (that I didn’t remember even planting). While I was digging up the area for that garden our neighbour, Jimmy was standing in his yard watching me. After an afternoon of garden labour he came over to encourage me.  In a thick Hungarian accent he says  “It’s good that you’re trying”.

Yeah.

So we are almost ready for our 2nd attempt. We need to purchase some more soil and rent a tiller. I have all the seed needs covered though.

AND WHAT A RIP OFF they are!

Yesterday I stopped at C@n@dian T1re to purchase seeds.

$25 later I have several packets of microscopic seeds a box of old potatoes and a net bag of garlic that’s been sitting in someone cupboard too long. Like seriously? I can totally come up with old vegetables on my own eh?

Our chosen location is littered with stones. Saturday will consist of rock picking I suspect.  And boy won’t that be fun.

As long as I can keep Chris under control with the tiller (last time we rented one he did the entire yard) and as long as I can keep us from actually planting until we are well into may (always a threat of frost around here until then), I think we will be ok. Welll I think we will at least grow potatoes. And as long as something edible comes out of that garden, the kids will be pleased

We have a large strawberry patch as well, last year we got a couple bowlfuls out of it, but I think Boomer(RIP) CRUSHED them over the winter.

Ok…this has taken a boring turn. Time to STOP TYPING.

If something exciting happens.

Like the (pink) iPod Feffie and I bought Chris for his birthday, that was supposed to be here LAST Friday actually shows up, I’ll let you know.
