THE GODDAMNED OWL THAT HAS TAKEN UP RESIDENCE OUTSIDE MY WINDOW THAT’S WHO!

For 3 nights we have woken up in the middle of the night to the soft whooting of some sort of owl near (very) our bedroom window.  It’s not an unpleasant sound..but it is loud enough to wake us up and strike up a mid-slumber chat about it.

Nothing that makes sense of course but does disturb me long enough to have to go pee.

Shortly after Noah comes in….because Noah comes in EVERY NIGHT, so regularly in fact we don’t even speak anymore. He just toddles in and Chris shoves over to the middle and Noah climbs in in front of him.  Sometimes we are all facing the same direction, me spooning chris (sort of) Chris spooning Noah, and Noah hanging on for dear life to whatever real estate he has managed to secure.

On the bright side, the owl seems to have scared off ALL OTHER BIRDS. Suddenly there aren’t the usual flocks of ravens and sparrows squawking outside our windows at 5:30am.

So there is that.

I love owls….and the sounds they make are comforting….

Ha, at first I thought ‘gosh, what could be so disruptive about the gentle, lulling sound of an owl?’ but then, as events unfolded, it became clear. When my kid was little it was the freight train going through the backyard (not just close by - the ACTUAL back yard) that sent him to our bed - screaming in terror.

It could be worse, you could have shrikes nesting in your yard like I do and chasing every other bird away…………or magpies and crows scrapping in the apple tree by your bedroom window………….or a twin bed!

Jon (was) in Michigan Says:

You are lucky if the birds are only up at 5:30. Wait until the eggs are hatching. I suspect the owl may have a nest nearby.

Lara has a kid? Did I miss that?
