The Dinosaur That (almost) Wasn’t. November 08 2006

This was Noah’s hallowe’en costume. Cute eh?
Well let me tell you it was touch and go for a while.
I got the pattern in Sept (while visiting Feffie) and even got the fabric. I knew it was going to be close because the largest size was 4 and at that time our little Noah was quickly over-taking 4. But I figured it would be fine.
In early Oct I began the sewing process…cut cut cut…interface interface interface. And then I got busy, obsessing over jobs I had no intention of taking, etc.
So the sewing ceased for a bit.
Fast forward to the monday BEFORE hallowe’en as I scrambled to get it all done. Finally I decided to pack it all up and take it to my mom’s to finish. 2 heads are better than one type thing. So again, sew sew sew, iron iron iron, cut cut cut (not necessarily in that order).
I dashed out to pick Noah up from school (literally across the street) and once he had debriefed us on the kindergarten happenings of his day and was sufficiently fed & watered we decided to try on the part of the costume that was completed (basically a bodysuit with a tail and no arms or real legs yet). And guess what? I didn’t fit. If it was super toasty warm here and he could possibly be completely naked under his costume, MAYBE he could’ve worn it. IF he skipped lunch & dinner that day.
Panic.
4pm.
Two options, dash downtown to search out a replacement in the form of some sort of caped super hero costume with the very real possibility of NOT finding an appropriate one & also? The mall closes at 5:30. So you know. SCOOT! OR. Make a bigger one even though the pattern’s biggest size is still too small for Noah and I have no fabric left.
Well my mom was pretty sure that she had some left over green or even brown fabric and she is the master crafter so I decided go to with that option.
After dropping Noah off at home I went back to Mom’s for a quick dinner (I believe cheesecake was involved) and the we began.
Fabric - large green fleece blanket purchased to protect her new furniture from my children (less than 10 dollars. why is it I spend $10/m for fleece??)
I salvaged the spikes from the first costume and re-sewed them with my mom’s green fleece.
We pinned out the entire costume on her living room floor. Then she cut it out with an extra inch or so around each piece.

A few oops here and there and VOILA! A dinosaur emerged. Better than the first one. So much in fact that Noah didn’t need to wear anything but a comfy pair of jammies underneath it even in our -10 weather Hallowe’en night.
He also wore it to his class the next day, where everyone thought he might be a dragon but you know, WHATEVER! Dragon’s have WINGS people, Noah-saurs have pokey things on their tails. DUH!
And his brother? Was Zombie Elvis (without the sequins)

You are very handy with a sewing kit… and a camera.
darn kids, why do they grow so fast?!
but you did a great job, even i could tell he wasn’t a dragon.
awesome! I am signing you on next year to do my costume. How are you with Princess’s?
Noah-saurus - Super cute!
Zombie Elvis - quite brilliant!
And you’re not allowed to bitch about your mother for at least 72 hours (it’s a karma thing) ; )
OMG…you rock! I’m lucky if I sew on a button. Great job and your kids both looked fabulous.
Photo problems…

they’re so cute…even if they have spikey things and look like elvis..
