BOATING July 25 2006
We took the boys out on my FIL’s boat today. We just went on the one lake (there are about 150 around here) and puttered around for most of the day.
I mentioned to Noah that I would make a picnic. I forgot that at the mere suggestion of the word he instantly becomes hungry and NEEDS TO EAT NOW.
So 5 minutes on the lake and I was handing out PB sandwiches & kool-aid drink pacs.
The boys devoured them. Truth be told we all did. It was fabulous. The lake was calm and flat and look like ice (with less BRRR) and we puttered right to the very end of the lake. We hoped out at the little portage spot (did not portage) and sauntered on down a trail to the very next lake. If only the boat would have easily followed. Alas we were forced to merely admire the lake, convince ourselves that we heard a bear and rush back to the boat.
THEN we went to this little beach that you can only reach by boat. The boys swam with their lifejackets and Chris and I sat on our butts and relaxed.
Then we puttered somemore to the middle of the lake and devoured a bunch of chicken salad sandwiches, before beaching ourselves at one of the public beaches and letting the boys burn off the rest of their pent up energy.
The last time we did this we did it with a canoe and it took us forever and we were SORE and tired. This? Was more like it.
Chris even caught a teeny fish, that we all examined and then he let him go.
OH! And we saw a muskrat..ok ok..I saw a muskrat and then I scream “LOOK! LOOK! A muskrat!” and he disappeared.
blah.
So here we are…at home. Starving because Noah needs to eat NON-STOP on a picnic and cleaned us out of all our provisions half way through the trip.
I woulda taken pictures but you know, something was going end up in the water and I would be just as happy if it WASN’T my camera, so I left it at home.
NO SOUR KRAUTS TODAY!
HURRAY HURRAY! NO SOUR KRAUTS TODAY!
Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that even in a story devoted to boats and lakes, there is still a recurring theme of ‘bears’.
O’ Canada.
That sounds like an awesome day!
that sounds so nice and relaxing…..I LOVE PB&J!!!!
Noah ate ALL the food? Ok, see you need to start hiding the food from that kid. Maybe the wine too.
I can not keep enough food around for my boys either, although I can pack a punch when it comes to eating too!
Sounds fun!
