Calling Out to All of My Know-It-All Cycling Friends ….

…. you know who you are.

I have $2000 to spend on a bike.   I have won a lot of stuff in my life — I’m always good for a door prize — but this is exciting in a freaky kind of way.  I think this is a big push for me to get cycling.

I want suggestions …. what should a beginner buy??   I haven’t bought a bike since 1991, when I spent $500, and thought that was HUGE.

My husband is a big mountain biker, but I wonder if I’d really like spending time on all of those freaky muddy hills at top speed, or if I’d just scream like a girl the whole time and completely ruin his leisure experience?!!?

 Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp ……

Depends – if you can spend the $2K on two bikes, you can get a good road bike w/ Shimano 105 for about $1200, a decent hardtail MTB w/ Shimano Deore or Sram X.7 for about 600, and have $200 to spend on helmets, shoes, etc…
