Reflection of the Week, a.k.a. What Makes Me Grin All-Silly

Filed under: General — beverly at 10:45 pm on Friday, March 24, 2006

Yes, it’s been established that time flies. Time flies and you can choose to sit on the couch, or you can choose to move.

This week, I chose to move. I actually chose to be AP (Annoyingly Positive) about every potential excuse challenge that stood in my way of working out.

“My husband leaves for work too early.” I got up at 5 a.m. to run. Yes, twice this week, I napped with daughter in the afternoon because I was so dead tired, but it all worked out.

“It’s too cold.” I bought new stuff. I love buying new stuff, so it all worked out.

“I forgot to buy a toque.” Newsflash: no one is up at 5 a.m.. I can wear my kid’s dragon flame toque, or my husband’s “please-don’t-anyone-touch-that” toque, or the Ugly Spare Toque Reserved for Small Houseguests. It all works out.

“It’s icy.” I watched. I stuck to clear roads, as the paths that don’t see sun until later in the day were indeed icy. You guessed it, it worked out.

Walking’s probably better for me.” Oh please. Who types this stuff??

I’m finding my groove. Ran five times this week. This grin isn’t wiping off so easily these days. :)

blink!

Blink! And HOW much time has gone by? My point exactly. Yeesh.

The short story on my life lately … (yes, in a list format)

1. We took a family trip to beautiful Jasper, Alberta. The boys each got a day of snowboarding lessons and a day of skiing lessons, and we just had a great time relaxing with no phones, no computers, etc.. I am happiest when my family is all in the same spot … it’s that mother hen thing I’ve got going. Camryn and I didn’t ski (it was one day before her third birthday, so she could not, and truly she wasn’t itching to do it so it was not a big deal), but instead I spent a lot of time watching my daughter flirt outrageously with the bartender at the chalet overlooking the lesson area of the ski hill. She’s a piece of work, that gal. :)

2. I have recommitted myself to losing some more weight. It’s a tiring battle — physically and emotionally to devote yourself to losing weight. Getting into the groove of new habits is so exhausting to me. That’s worth another post at some point soon, but basically I’m running 4 days per week, swimming one (I have to be realistic), and following a w8 watchers diet.

3. I spent a good part of last week in my favourite city of all time which I have never actually lived in … Vancouver, BC. Got to run that seawall again. It is my meter stick on my fitness … I did well. Running by the sea is a luxury, and it puts the world in perspective for me. You people that have that in your backyard, ie. don’t live in Alberta, are truly blessed. I was there alone, stretching out my time for a small work commitment, because truly I needed a “silent retreat.” I have some big stuff going on in my head, about life, choices, plans, dreams … and I love my husband for getting that and understanding my need to take a few days for myself. It was a sad time and a glorious time all at the same time. On a fitness note, I stretched myself as a human being, and rented a mountain bike and biked around Stanley Park. Phenomenal. What a great time, except for extremely sore butt the next day. However, I spent most of the next day thinking and journalling and planning and list-making and praying, so the butt got a needed rest.

Kids are paging me so I’ll continue this later on. And holy cow, do I have to catch up on your blog. Yes. YOU.

Thanks, Mark!
