First Night of Running Clinic: Random Thoughts

Filed under: General,Random Thoughts While Running — beverly at 11:15 pm on Monday, July 4, 2005

1. Wow. What a variety of people are here.
2. Wow. That instructor just said, “No one is too slow here. We’re here to have fun.”
3. Wow. They’ve put another instructor at the back of the pack of 25 women and 2 men. She’s committed herself to run at the back, bless Inga’s soul.
4. Okay, I need to stop saying “Wow”. It’s incredibly annoying.
5. Bless her soul, but I don’t really wanna run with Inga.
6. I think I have more of a competitive spirit that I’ve acknowledged.
7. Look at me, I’m in the middle.
8. Look at that: there are much thinner, “fitter-looking” people than me who are really struggling with these intervals.
9. This woman beside me is chatty AND funny.
10. I’m grateful for the combination.
11. I’m sweating … it’s hot … but I’m not completely spent. I’ve run harder than this before, and that’s a good feeling.
12. Holy cow, we’re done!?
13. Holy cow is really no better than wow.
14. My ankle did not swell!
15. Yay!!!!!!!!!
16. Running is my friend. :)

Great thoughts – especially the realization that you’re not alone in your struggles. No one ever wants to be with the “Inga”, but it’s really cool that she’s there.

Huzzah!

I hope you have a blast in the clinic. They can be a ton of fun, and you really do meet the coolest people.

Dang! Do you have *any* idea how long I would have to think about/talk about joining a running clinic before I *actually* did anything about it? You’re a super star!

Wow! Glad it went well and also glad the group leaders are attentive to all speeds. Tis the way it should be and was when I took my first clinic.

Woohoo!!!! I’m so glad you joined and had a good time! Did they show you different ways to run so your ankle wouldn’t swell? I’m curious why it didn’t bother you on this run as opposed to past runs.

Yeah, I was just about to tell you about the “wow” thing. ;)

Great stuff Bev. This sounds like the perfect thing and I’m so glad about the ankle.

(and I’m STILL trying to find the name of that doctor!)

YEA for the ankle!!! So damn happy for you! I hope its banished forever. Well, not your whole ankle. Just the swelling.

Yay! Running clinics are the way to go – I love them – I’m always embarrassed to say at the beginning of yet another 1/2 marathon clinic that I’ve done 7 (or 8?) already. It’s just that I find clinics soooooo motivating.
