Beverly's Running Blog

quick quips

Hi everyone … I’ve been trying to get caught up on my work project. Why is procrastination such a part of who I am?!?

Here are some quick updates in my life:

Uncle’s funeral:

Absolutely awesome. It was an open-mike style of a “service of remembrance” and it was so incredible. People from his entire life just lined up at the mike to talk about how he affected them. We left feeling like we’d had a great visit with him … is there a better way to say goodbye than that?? Oh … and this is too cute … we took our younger two to the hall party after the funeral, and when we pulled up there were over 300 cars. My Derek says “Why all the cars?” I say, ” A lot of people knew my uncle, Derek.” He says, “Oh no, Mom, I think a lotta people knew he died.” Funny boy.

Running/ Walking / Fitness:

Things are well. I put in 35.48 k last week, which makes me happy. I can smell summer coming, and that completely motivates me. I’ve got my kids involved in a family “Making our Way to Jasper” challenge … so everyone is clocking the kms. The boys believe that we won’t get to go this summer unless we make the km-age … little do they know that we are indeed going! They are veeeery motivated to come biking while I run now, and we clock each family member, so it’s getting everyone excited! I also challenged my dad re: losing 10 lbs a while back, and I’m down 8.5. He’s not talking, which is typical of him: always strategizing. Game on.

Other Ventures

As is typical of me, when I am supposed to be doing this technical writing work project, I feel like being creative instead. So I’m working on a kid’s series that’s been brewing in my mind for about 10 years (see above note re: procrastination), and I’m helping a comic friend of mine write a sitcom pilot. That’s just pure fun; writing comedy is such a thrill to me. He’s a brilliant comic, so it’s so much fun to do.

Oh … and thanks to you all for sharing your picturesque running spots with me … now my travel bug is nipping at me harder …

My grandfather’s funeral was a lot like your uncles – after a brief period of loss, we all realized he’d be upset that family and friends were all gathered and not having a great time. Stories were told, laughs were had, and we all felt richer for having known a good man. The loss was still palapable, but was somewhat easier knowing how widely it was shared.

Any running jokes in the sitcom?

I write my most creative blogs when I am supposed to be working on tech writing projects. Somehow the thoughts flow in the wrong direction – glad my schedule is flexible.

Sounds like you’re putting in some good mileage. And how is the swimming going? I used to be on a master’s swim team and found it fun. I never competed however as some did. I just swam and trained with everyone. Great exercise!

Glad the funeral was such a remarkable experience. Take care, kirsten
