Jacksonville, FL in February??? Priceless!!!!!

March 2nd, 2008 by runr53

My worst ever time for a marathon! I knew that 9 weeks after Charlotte, and only getting the Sunday long runs in and a nasty virus / head /chest cold would put a kink in my achieving a decent time for the National Breast Cancer marathon, but… All that aside, the esteemed brother from NY his son from here and a workmate of the brother and I all drove 16 hours on Friday morning hung out on Saturday in Jacksonville ( read feet in the water, shorts and t shirts, etc. ) went to an awesome expo to pick up our packets and toed the line in Jacksonville FL on Sunday!!! The best times I have had running always include running with the family, bar none! Oh, you stat freaks will want to know 5:45 in almost 80 degree Fahrenheit temps!! Oh, and state # 12!! Run Good

6 degrees Freaking Faranheit!!!!

January 20th, 2008 by runr53

Do you all, with the exception of Mark, know how it feels to run your 16 mile training long run in 6 degree weather, with a wind chill of -13??? Well I’m here to tell ya, it is cold!!!! I figure that after this run this morning, that took about 37 minutes longer than we thought it would , (oh and did I say it was all on the shoulder due to enough snow cover to hide any ice that might have been there), we are all set for Jacksonville in mid February!! Went walking 9 miles with the 3 Day girls yesterday, not as cold but walking versus running makes it feel colder and then the 16 this morning and thats it for the whole week, eek! RUN GOOD!

And so it begins… again?… began?… again?

January 6th, 2008 by runr53

The nephew and I got up this morning and headed out to Hines Drive to do our long run. We had a scheduled run of 12 miles to do. Our weather has been a little strange for SE Michigan this year, we have had a couple of 6-12 inch snow falls and temps in the low low single digits all in the past few weeks! Not unusual you say? Well, add in the fact that today it was 40 degrees at the start of our run at 8:00AM! Not really complaining, except I was having difficulty breathing in the 97% humidity and the car traffic, we were on the shoulder instead of the path due to our last snowfall had left the path an icy hazardous mess, that couldn’t really see us due to the freaking fog!!! But hey! It was a good twelve miles, and one week closer to the first National Breast Cancer Marathon on the 17th of February in warm sunny Jacksonville FL!! Next week… 14 miles… ready… begin!!

Saturday the 8th of December…

December 12th, 2007 by runr53

After a 10 hour drive on Friday, the nephew, older (esteemed) brother, the former chiropractor now living in N. Cacalachi, two of her sisters and two of the brothers work mates all toed the line at the Charlotte Thunder Road Marathon! Did anyone ever tell you they have hills in NC? If they did they were lying to you! They have really, really big, long, high and sometimes… going up both sides freaking HILLS! But we all had a great time, it has been a year or so since the bro an I got to run together! This was my 14th marathon and my 11th state… but never fear… I will again toe the line, albeit with a smaller entourage, in February, just 9 weeks hence for the 1st annual National Breast Cancer Marathon in Jacksonville, FL! For all you stat freaks, 4:51 clock and 4:49 chip time with an age graded 4:09, will someone smarter than I please tell me what that is all about?? Oh, and the weather was super awesome!! 43 degrees at the start and 65 at the finish!!!! Run Good!

Week 6 (of 12!) done!

October 21st, 2007 by runr53

Week 6 started with a scheduled six miler on Monday, done! Tuesday called for 5, done! Wednesday was scheduled to be intervals, not done, work got in the way again! Thursday was a scheduled 6, I did 8 hard instead because I knew Friday’s 10 was not going to happen due to a football game I needed to attend. Update:  Forgot today’s Sunday run. The nephew and I ran 12 up at Hines today and so on to the week 7 schedule!!!
The Romeo High School football team came all the way down to Farmington Hills, about an hour or more drive, on Friday and Saturday of the 3 Day to help the walkers set up tents, carry their food trays etc again this year as they did last year. We were in their neck of the woods last year! So anyway, there last home game of the season was Friday and a bunch of us drove up to support them and cheer them on, it was awesome! I have not seen a high school football game in years and they played with real passion! Romeo wiped the field with their opponent 39 - 14 or something like that so that made it all the better!

On another note, two of the Hines Pink Pathers, the team I led during this years 3 Day, walked the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon today and both came through with flying colors, I am so proud that they still want to walk after all the hard work they put in for the 3 Day training!

Another week closer to the marathon and some running in to!

October 14th, 2007 by runr53

ORN: This week my runs seemed to be on track, at least for Monday and Tuesday! Monday had us doing a 6 miler after 10 on Sunday. I ran it by myself getting started about 7:00PM (read dusk!). An hour later and I was done realizing that yes Virginia, there is a shade of dark that requires a smart person to wear a reflective vest and flashers!! Oh the joys of fall and winter running! Tuesday only had us scheduled for 4 miles, got started earlier and had my vest and flashers on, finished at almost dark, by the time I finished stretching it was really dark! Ok, Then the week fell apart, Wednesday, no run worked late, Thursday, no run worked late, Friday, no run worked late!!! Today, the schedule called for 12 and all twelve are in the books, my times are still sucky but I am getting them done.

After the run my sister and BIL, Mom & I went up to Holly where Carol is interred and saw the completed cover stone for her niche. The Great Lakes National Cemetery did a really nice job on it and I was happy, gotta tell you all though, leaving after seeing her niche, felt like leaving her again and it still sucks! This picture shows what some of the ladies on our 3 Day team felt this year with her not there:

Go hug someone you love and tell them so, NOW!  Run Good!
