Leaving on a Jet Plane – Thur, Dec 3rd, 2009

Okay so this post is long overdue. Yeah I could list countless excuses but that would just take away from the topic I need to chat about so I’ll skip the excuses and get on with the story.

Day 1
Thursday Dec 3rd, bright and early we were up and in a cab to the airport. Actually neither of us slept well at all so getting up at 5am was pretty easy. By we I mean myself and my friend Jessica. I’ve known Jessica for about 15 years. We met in Victoria way back when we were both single and living in the same apartment building. We literally ran into each other in the hallway one day. We’ve been buds ever since. Back in our single days we used to hit the bars together and dance all night. We both got married in the same year back in 1998. Since then we’ve each moved around a bit. Jessica now lives in Edmonton and of course I’m in Calgary. So we don’t get to spend much time together any more. Needless to say we were both pretty excited about heading to Vegas together for a number of reasons.

Anyhow at the airport silly me nearly got in trouble. The carry on bag I used was one I had used earlier this summer for a trip with Karen. Oops I had left in the back of it a really large nearly full thing of sunscreen. They don’t like that kind of thing when ya go through security so they had to go completely through my carry on to make sure that was all I was trying to smuggle on the plane. Oh yeah to top it off the snaps on my jeans, the metal on my boots, the metal hairband and all my jewelry set off the detector as well so I got the full personal scan and search. I’m such a problem child … lol.

Despite all that we made it through security and into the waiting area. Met up with a few others heading to Vegas like us. Some were going for fun and one was going with a friend who was doing the race. There was the guy who sat quietly while us girls chatted. We found out later his wife had walked out after only being married 4 months, poor guy.

Our flight was taking us first to Vancouver and then after a short wait between planes we boarded the second leg of our flight to Vegas. We arrived shortly after lunch. A short shuttle ride to the hotel then we checked into our room. Of course to get anywhere from our room we had to pass through the casino area. Good thing I don’t have a gambling problem. Being hungry we walked around looking for a place to eat. We settled on a $29 all you can eat buffet. That’s the price for the whole day, you can come and go all day long. Wow the food choices. I’m sure we ate way too much but oh well. Next stop was to find some big margaritas and wonder along the strip. We found some huge plastic mugs shaped like cowboy boots at “Coyote Ugly”. Jessica got a pinacolada and I got strawberry. We sipped on them as we walked the strip. Everone wanted to know where we got our boots…lol.

Along the strip we found NACAR cars and took photos as I knew my hubby would be jealous he hadn’t joined us on the trip. Poor guy had to work. On every corner there were guys handing out cards “girls, girls, girls”. We joked and asked where were the “guys, guys, guys”.

Later we returned to the room and changed into “party outfits” then headed back to “Coyote Ugly” for margarita refills as well as some fun. The place was packed. Oh yeah, we ended up dancing on the bar along with other girls. Free shooters for all who danced on the bar. It had been a long day so we called it an early night and headed back to the hotel somewhere after 10pm. Wondering throught the Casino we met up with some cowboys in town for the rodeo. We watched Steve and his friends gamble for a bit before calling it a night. This ended day 1 in Vegas.
