I actually have been running. Not a terribly huge amount, but more than I have in the past month. I ran thursday (3), staturday (5), and sunday (3). I’m trying get my mileage up for marathon training, which officially starts on the 24th.
Did I mention I signed up for the Vermont City Marathon? I did. My first Spring marathon. Usually I sign up for fall ones. We’ll see how this works out. I’ve gone through the training plan and checked to make sure there aren’t too many conflicts:
There’s a few scout outings this spring, but there are shorter runs on those weekends, and I think that I will be up for those runs after I get back. This plan has only one rest day a week instead of two. Usually, I have two, so we’ll see how well I stick to it. If it ends up being too much, I’ll take it as a rest day.
The very hard runs will be the Wednesday runs. Its after work so it will be dark, and running at night here is not very safe. Lots of people get hit by cars. I’m not sure if its stupid drives, careless runners, or other factors. I just don’t want to be a statistic. So, I run in the neighborhood, which is reasonably safe. But one double 8 loop is 1.7 miles. For an 8 mile run, this gets more than a little tedious. I know in mid March, the time shift gives me a little more daylight. Maybe I can hold out until then.
In other news, my car is definitely dead. It bend a rod or broke a valve, or some such thing. Either way, the engine would need to be replaced. For a 1993 vehicle, its not worth it. Especially, given that it runs too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, and the exhaust system has a big hole near the manifold. Too much is falling apart on it to bother fixing it.
So, we ended up buying a used 2006 Nissan Sentra. It seems in very nice shape. They put new tires on it and replaced 2 rims. It needs a third rim, which should be in this week. They also need to replace the wiper fluid pump, but we’ll have them do that when it goes in to switch out the rim. It sure was nice to drive to work in a warm car again.

Yay Vermont City! It is a nice race. I hope you like it. The boys and I will be out with our cowbells. :) I am training for a 5/1 marathon and feel you pain about winter training. I ran circles around our neighborhood this weekend just because I wouldn’t have to fight slippery roads and traffic as much. Bleh. It builds character…or something. Good luck!
Can’t wait. My training plan is centered around Yasso’s – http://public.iwork.com/document/?a=p30383521&d=Marathon_Plan_2011.numbers
good luck!
