11 miles

Posted By Jon on July 5, 2009

I had a good run this morning.  I met up with my running partner and we did 11 miles at the park around 9 am.  She does worse in heat than I do, so the early morning worked out very well for both of us.  Lots of folks were out running this morning.  I think the nice weather is bringing people outside again, since we’ve had days and days of rain.

I wore the vibram five fingers again, and this time there were no issues.  My feet felt a little sore by the end, but no blisters or bruises.  Although, the old bruise from before is still swollen the day after a run.  From reading on the internets,  I’ve concluded that these things heal very slowly.

I really want to go run the Boilermaker, but I have the feeling its just not going to happen.  I think its next week, and I haven’t registered yet.  I’m concerned that races in the middle of marathon training are just going to mess things up, because I’ll miss long runs and be extra tired.  I really take a risk of screwing things up by running New Haven.  Its just that I like races.   Otherwise, running gets boring.

Not much else to say.   Still feel fat.  Clothes are fitting tighter again.  I need to stop eating bags of chips.  And just because potato chips are “all natural” or “organic”, doesn’t mean you can still eat a whole bag.  500 calories is 500 calories, whether they are organic or not.

re your comment: Nope, it’s not a lottery. I’m waiting to find out about the race route (ie. HILLS)! I’m afraid of hills.
Great job with your 11 miler. Double digit runs means you are a serious runner. :) I loved your comment about the ‘organic chips’. :)

same here…i love racing…and i can’t imagine not racing for all of marathon training…but it TOTALLY gets in the way-especially b/c the tri season in New England is so short and I want to take advantage of it. basically i want to everything!!

    good run today!

I would be worrying about my wheels taking too much abuse more than the organic chips.
Racing during training is problematic most especially when the distance doesn’t sync with the training distance and pace for the day. I skipped our Watermelon 5K yesterday to do 5 miles instead. That did not keep me from stopping by the race site and chomping down on some cold watermelon. Mmmmn.

ha – if only EVERYONE felt the same way as you do about potato chips! I hardly ever buy them because it’s too hard to have “just a few”. I stick my hand in the bag randomly and who knows what that adds up to.

Feeling fat over here too. My scale gave me the RUDEST surprise a couple of days ago, so I’ve been trying to eat clean. I give it a week, if that.

I missed a lot of short local races last year because of marathon training – there’s gotta be a happy compromise somewhere, right?
