Happy 4th of July

Posted By Jon on July 4, 2009

Well…happy 4th for those celebrating.

This marks the anniversary of the day we told King George III to go stuff it up his crumpet.  And then we had a big war about it.  A group of insurgents with minimal armament, along with the support of the French military, pressured the world’s largest military power to withdraw.    And the US (more or less) was born.

I ran three miles this morning (my late Thursday run) in my vibram 5 fingers.  All went very well.  Much better than the 6 miles I ran on Wednesday, which was in the woods on trails.  the vibrams don’t do well at all on rocky trails.  Incredible pain from all the sharps stones and roots.  Trail shoes or flats for those from now on, but I’m still good in the vibrams on pavement and asphalt.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

The French didn’t really go in until it was pretty apparent we were going to win. And, even then, they didn’t really go all in – it was bad strategic thinking by the British to come far enough south that the French fleet could have a chance of bottling them up at Yorktown.

(Ask me what I spent every tuesday last year doing … I’ll give a hint, it begins with “Strategy” and ends with “War” and was taught at the Naval War College…)

I’m glad I found your blog. I am trying to motivate myself for a half marathon & this helps. I was unhappy to see that you were not a good camp counselor though b/c I just dropped my kids off at camp on Sun. My stomach ache had gone away but now it’s back! Better start running to take my mind off of it!

Wait…doesn’t this kind of parallel some current events?
