a thing of beauty

Jon | March 30, 2009

I finally saved up for my very own captain’s chair.  Isn’t she pretty?

6 x 400

Jon | March 28, 2009

I did speedwork tonight (finally!).  The internets weren’t too loud and the fridge didn’t grab me before I got out the door.  I did 6, 400 meter runs using Garmin’s interval trainer.  I’ve had that thing for years now and have never used it.  Actually, I didn’t even know it had that feature.  Idiot me.
I [...]

Shoe frustration

Jon | March 23, 2009

I am very frustrated with my running shoes.  They are wearing out and I need new pair but can’t find any.
I wear Adidas Adizero PR’s, which are a marvelous minimalist shoe.  4.3 ounces, flat, beautiful (except for the stupid red color).  But they aren’t available in my size any more (12), because Adidas is a [...]

Running and chocolate

Jon | March 22, 2009

I keep getting hits from people searching for “chocolate bad for running” or something similar.  I’m not sur e why.  Let me make this perfectly clear.  Chocolate is good for running.  Anyone who says otherwise is a damn liar and a scoundrel and should be run out of town on a rail.  Let that be [...]

MET-Rx Protein Plus almost killed me

Jon | March 20, 2009

I had a joyfully speedy run at the park with my running buddy last night.  Both of us were dead tired heading into it and it turned into one of our fastest runs yet.  I don’t get it.  Must be post-race speed still holding on.  I’m hoping so.
Afterward, we were sitting in the car reviewing [...]

10 miles

Jon | March 14, 2009

I ran 10 miles this morning.  Its a bit warmer this week, and it was about 40F when I got back from the run.  My calves felt a little tight near the end of the run.  10 miles, 1:37.  Not much to report:
I passed a cow pasture and every bovine in it was staring at [...]

Should I pick that up?

Jon | March 13, 2009

See that gauntlet lying on the ground?  Does that have my name on it?  Should I be picking that up?
Not sure.
A friend of mine, whom I have run and raced with before, says he is planning on running a half marathon in May.  Good for him, I say, because he has just started running recently [...]

Celebrate Life Half Marathon = HILLS

Jon | March 8, 2009

I ran in the Celebrate Life Half Marathon this morning.  Let me tell you, there are hills.  Even though they give you the elevation profile (and it looks kinda flat), without comprehending the scale of the image and without actually being there, you really don’t grasp the amount of hills in this race.

That first big [...]

Race tomorrow

Jon | March 7, 2009

Tomorrow morning I have a half marathon.  This is my first half marathon in a very long time.  I think the last one was the trail 1/2 marathon in 2005, which was a PR.  So the pace to beat is 9:05.  McMillan says I can do 8:05 based on my last 10K in November, and [...]
