Rest today
I ran 5 miles on Thursday and took yesterday and today off to rest for the race. My legs were dead tired during the 5 too, so maybe it is good timing. My right heel was hurting during the day quite a bit. Like a bruise on the outer corner. It didn’t hurt to run because I have a mid/fore-foot strike, but walking was pretty uncomfortable. Today things are ok so I think it was just a stone bruise, and not the-acronym-which-must-not-be-named.
The weather outside if just beautiful today, for the first time in months. We’ve had rain every single day since March and my yard looks like crap. I ended up mowing in the rain the last time just out of desperation. I got my tomatoes in the ground and they naturally turned out crappy again. I even used potting soil to get the ground a little more fertile. Nothing except to tiny cherry tomatoes. I don’t know why the tomato plants here are the suck, but they are. In Michigan, I had more tomatoes than I could eat. Here it sucks.
So today, in honor of nice weather, I am not going running. Sigh. Maybe its a good day to clean up the yard and the garage. I would like to get the car and truck into the garage before the end of monsoon season. Right now it is piled high with empty boxes (which are easy to get rid of) and boxes filled with crap (which are not so easy to get rid of). Our favorite charity that takes donations of stuff has said that their shelves are full and they no longer accepting stuff. Damn. I would like to put it by the road, but when the rain resumes tomorrow it will be a giant pile of wet mush.
Not a very up lifting post. More grumbling. Sorry.
Race tomorrow. A small 5K with big big hills. Probably one of the hilliest 5K street races I have done. Having run the course twice now, I think I’m about as ready as I can get. It would be nice training site if one leg of it wasn’t on the highway. I like it because it on the way home from work and the parking is free after 5:00 pm. There’s a lake at the park too so a little swim after a hilly run might be nice. They do have some trails as well, although my flats don’t do so well in mud on trails.
Enjoy the weekend!

Do you know if you have a freecycle group in your area? I use it all the time. It’s a yahoo group. I’ve gotten rid of just about everything I’ve ever posted, and the good news is the person comes to pick it up! It’s a great way to get rid of stuff that’s still good that SOMEONE could use. Let me know if you want to know more.

second the freecycle. Although, at times, I really think that it’s easier just to burn the house to the ground than to sell it and move the stuff.
