Ugh
Yes, I am still alive. Fat, but alive. I actually did go running twice during the holidays. I did ok but it wasn’t very pretty. 4 miles each, and they shouldn’t have felt like they did, but that’s my punishment for neglecting it.
I haven’t wanted to run at night when I come home because its dark now and with the big snow banks, I’m afraid the cars will decide to hit me because I’m too close to the road. Speaking of that, when I was running least weekend, a snow plow was coming towards me and began to veer over to the shoulder (no snow in the road). I moved over a bit and then they moved back as they approached. I saw the driver and his buddy laughing their fat butts off, so I gave them the double fingers. Let the cops come visit me again.
I bought a reflective running jacket to combat the no-vis problem I have running at night, along with reflective ankle straps, and a flashing red light. My normal strobe just doesn’t do well bouncing around for some reason. Its certainly bright enough but its too sporadic to trust.
My wife and I tried out the jacket last night with a flashlight and it really is amazing. To the person wearing it, it appears to be black even with a light shining on it. But the other person sees this white/grey image. Its pretty obvious to see at night. I’d like to get outside and see how it looks far away with head lights. Maybe I’ll go running tonight if its not too cold. Yeah, 7F when I got home last night. Forget that.

Thats not too cold, I’ve run in minus 30 C (not sure what that is in F). My water froze in my water bottle while I was running. Note to self, next time bring gatorade, the sodium in it prevents it form freezing as quickly.

The dark is what always gets me. At 6pm, I feel like I should be going to bed.
We did see a guy out running at night with a bunch of those ropes with the flashy lights all throughout them wrapped all over him. He looked like a running Christmas tree, but it was impossible to not see him, so I guess it was affective.

I am having a tough time motivating myself to run this winter as well. I have been going to the gym, but that is just so lame compared to running outside with hills and everything. Oh well, I guess we could have bigger problems.
