Blame Canada!!
Its not Friday but this is still about chocolate (remember chocolate? its a blog about chocolate.)
Apparently, in CANADA there have been some nasty dealings in the chocolate industry for the past 5 years or so. Looks like the CANADIAN divisions of the big three (that being Mars, Hershey, and Nestle) have allegedly been fixing the prices of chocolate up there along with ITWAL, which is a food distributor.
And it wasn’t just a matter of setting prices. Allegedly, “ITWAL worked with the chocolate companies to force retailers to stop cutting prices for chocolate bars. Stores that didn’t comply were cut off”
Lots of cloak and dagger and chief executives handing stuffed envelopes with secret info to couriers. Hey, when $2B is at stake, sometimes you gotta play hardball. Even in loonies, that’s a lot of cocoa.
Next time you are in CANADA and you see those chocolate bars in the store, remember you are being taken for a ride if you buy it. My suggestion? Boycott. No sense buying some executive his next winter home in the Bahamas.

They closed the Moirs Chocolate plant in Halifax yesterday too. Not that great of a candy but still…………

You just want us to leave more chocolate for YOU. I’m not boycotting anything :P especially since just a couple of weeks ago I discovered the Cote d’Or dark with toasted nibs. To DIE for! (not boycotting. I am at the mercy of the chocolate powers that be) I almost wrote my own Chocolate Friday post on it. Still might. Have to get some more…
