End of the line
I think I’ve reached the end of useful life for my Adidas Adizero’s. As I put them on tonight for the last run before the race, I notice they felt lumpy. Like my socks were a little thicker in the middle. After about half a mile, they seemed to “smooth” out. When I got home I put my hand inside to discover that they sole was shaped remarkably like the bottom of my foot. Egads.
My first reaction was naturally to go online and find someplace that I can order a pair from that can ship next day. I would feel very comfortable wearing a brand new pair for the race. So I checked online.
No luck. Panic. Bleh.
I guess I’m stuck with what I have, but to be honest, the shoes have probably looked like that for a while. They have about 460 miles on them and know what I do about materials and durability testing, I’d say they didn’t get this way overnight. I probably ran with them like that in the 2o miler, when they had about 400 miles on them.
I’m probably ok.
But I might just stop into Dick’s Sporting Goods tomorrow just to see if they carry them in the stores (they have them online, 2-business day shipping).
They are forecasting isolated thunderstorms for race day. I’m ok with that as long as its not hot. I’m suspecting though that it means humidity (87%!). Not my favorite weather for a race. I can take cold and rain, but not heat and humidity. Note to self: don’t forget the body glide and band-aids.

You’re going to have a great race, Jon.
Pretty good miles on those shoes. I’m honestly not sure how many miles are on my h-streets but it’s a lot. I’m guessing well over a 1000.
I’m sure there are people reading this post and my comment thinking, “They’re crazy!”
There is a method to the madness. :)

Hey, what’s another 26 miles on a pair of shoes? (But it’s that 0.2 that’ll get ya!)
Have a great race, Jon!

Babsie said it all.
I wouldn’t stress over it but if I had a choice between brand new shoes and the old ones, I would probably go with the old ones and endure the pains associated with worn out shoes vs. the rubbing and new sensations of a new pair of shoes that aren’t broken in.
Good luck. Don’t forget the body glide. Don’t forget some nip tape too, just in case.

You’re gonna rock that crazy race. New shoes the day before? I don’t THINK so!

If i remember right, the shoes you’re wearing are just a layer of material between your feet and the ground so… new, old whatever. Run Good!

Go Jon Go.
