Fall is coming early

I stepped outside this morning and wanted to run back in and get my hat and gloves.  Brrrrrr!  Who stole my global warming?

I shouldn’t complain though because it made for a nice refreshing run.  I think if it was 80F I’d have been miserable.  With the wind and cold and clouds, I was well cooled and didn’t have any over heating today.  This is good.  I work better in the cold.  I fueled up well last night (i.e. pigged out on carbs).  It was kinda nice to eat my fill of pasta and bread and not feel guilty heading back for seconds on the bread later.  Or the chocolate.  ;)

I did the same route as last time around the lake.  Past the doughnuts.  :)  Some woman came up behind me around mile 9 and said “I don’t want to scare you.” and ofcourse it scared the crap out of me!  Nobody is ever out there running when I am, just bikers and stuff.  She was wearing an iPod so I think she didn’t realize how loud she was talking.

I finished with 16 but the last 3 were a real struggle.  My hips were sore and when I would stop momentarily for  traffic or to brush bugs off me, I could really feel the fatigue.  A nice cold bath at the end really hit the spot.  Even after refueling, I find myself still hungry.  I’m going to try and make sure I get my protein all week to repair the damage.

The calves are doing well.  A little sore at the end, but I think with last week’s run and this one, they are entitled to be sore.  No tearing or anything, so I’m happy with it.  I’m trying to stretch during the day to keep them flexible.

There’s something else that I have noticed about the running, but I’m not ready to talk about it yet.  Something new and good for me.  You’ll see.  :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

You are such a tease. You do this all the time. Is this how you keep your blog stock price high?

Great run Jon! Remember long runs aren’t supposed to leave you feeling fresh and ready to do another round - sounds like you are on the right track.

Great job with your run! Are you training for a ‘thon?
