Last night I did 7 miles. It was pretty humid but it began to cool down as soon as the sun went down. The dragonflies are out in force now so the horseflies and mosquitoes are nowhere to be seen. The gnats however are all over the place and I had to make several force walking breaks to clear a few of them from my eyeballs. And I only ate a few.

I made sure I fueled up well before the the run and brought plenty of fluids. It might have been overkill, but I seem to be having the hardest times on the hot humid days and I wonder if the fuel or fluid has been lacking. This time things went well. Not much trouble from the previously torn calf. The other one has been unusually tight of late and I’m hoping its not going for the drastic lengthening method that the other one did (the torn one is incredibly loose).

The other night I was woken up by a horrible muscle cramp in my calf (the torn one). Much screaming. I have no idea what happened that would cause it but it took a good 24 hours for the soreness to go away. Nasty things muscle cramps.

One of my tomato plants cracked off near the ground yesterday. The stake was too short and when I went to fix it, the stem just snapped right off. I probably should have put it in water to try and salvage the tomatoes but I was late and frantic. Oh well.

ahhhh….muscles cramps hurt SO much. in my old age i’ve started getting them too. and it sucks they hurt for so long. i can trace my last one to too much coffee (dehydrating) and wine (dehydrating) all in the previous day. i was swimming in a pond when i got that one. kind of scary. and it hurt for almost a week.

anyway, feel better over there. and why was your co-worker googline jon and chocolate? kind of weird.

Cramping is a protective mechanism - though I can’t figure out why it happens - it’s part of the pain/injury cycle (just don’t ask me to explain it - it’s been 7 years since University…). Aren’t degrees so useful?

I get mid-night calf cramps sometimes. I’ve learned not to scream tho - freaks out the Hubby. Got one while sleeping in the tent after the K-100 race and it took a supreme effort not to wake up the whole camp of newly acquainted team members.

I like to think drinking more milk solves it (I love milk) but sometimes I think I just should have stretched more.

could be the cramping is caused by low potassium as well. bananas can take care of that.
bummer about the tomato plant, did you make fried green tomatoes?

I get leg cramps when I swim if I don’t take a magnesium supplement before. Thats why drinking milk seems to help most people, it contains a mag supplement.
