Dead Blog - lonely

This solo post on this dead blog seemed to fit the classic case of blogging looking for instant friends.  Apparently, nobody really did care, which is kind of sad because it is very common in the dead blogs.  The 6 comments were all spam.

It’s also a violation of blogging 101. The keys to keeping a successful blog are:

    1. Do it for yourself - ie, most of the running blogs would be some form of journal if we weren’t all so narcissistic(sp) and used to continual exposure.
    2. Identify a niche and fill it. I’m head over heels for the GeekDad blog - brilliant idea executed fairly well. Sure to have a big audience. The more obscure the topic, the greater the chance of success.
    3. Grow out of a community - Daily Kos is an example of this; by continually reaching out and commenting and participating in the vast left wing conspiracy ;) he was able to grow his site to the juggernaut it is today.

I have yet to meet anyone who is interesting enough on their own (ie, outside of some insanely great accomplishment or the proverbial 15 minutes of fame) that they can generate readers out of whole cloth.

Heh, there’s an idea - a blog where the comments are part of the package. Keep it up, grow it slowly, and sell it as a novel 9 months down the road…

I felt the same way when I started blogging, but now I’m totally addicted.

And I thought we were here to feel better after reading Jon’s Latest Lament.

It’s amazing how you keep finding these dead blogs. I think you and Bill should write a Blogging for Dummies book, something to think about!
