Junk day!
This is clean-up week in our town. People can haul as much to the curb as they want and the city hauls it away for free. Sofas, TV’s, refrigerators, wood, extra spouses, you name it, its out there. I got rid of our broken dehumidifier, a huge 50 year old gas heater that has been hanging in the garage, and a broken lawn mower that I picked up from the curb last fall.
The funny thing is that people drive around all day looking for free stuff. Guys come out in pickup trucks and just load them to the gills with stuff. That lawn mower was out there ess than an hour as was the dehumidifier. Funniest thing I saw was a junk pile with a HUGE sign that said “DO NOT STOP! FOR TOWN PICK UP ONLY!”. I guess they didn’t want anybody stealing their junk.
Did I go curb shoppping? Heck yeah! Guess what I got. Guess!
I got a nearly brand new lawn mower. Sears Craftsman. 7 hp. Self-propelled. Nice. The self-propelled part is messed up but I can buy a new gear for the drive online from Sears real cheap . The thing started up on the second pull. After cleaning the spark plug, my son was able to start it himself. Happy me.
Aaaaaaannnnnnd…
I got a bike. 12 speed. REAL ten speed curvy handle bars. The thing looks brand new. The tires are old and crumbly but easily and cheaply replaced. Perfect size. Fuji Sports 12. I thought they made film? I was shocked at how light it was when I picked it up. Now I can do crosstraining outside on the bike. Double happy me. UPDATE: I found a pic online of the same model. They described it as “vintage”! Ha! Fits me. :) Here is it.
My son and I did 6 miles today and four yesterday. Me on feet, him on his bike. Drizzly today and hot yesterday. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when I need new shoes. Can’t really afford to be buying more right now. I need to keep my eye on the closeout websites. Maybe they still have my model.
I hope you all had a good weekend.

I guess checking someones junk for new shoes is out of the question but great job on the other finds. I have a riding “Toro” that you could have if you wanted to fix it.

we just had junk week, i’m so glad it’s over. I was getting tired of those junk collectors during there early morning sweeps, i think they sell their pickings at swap meet.

We don’t have a “junk day” here but I do remember them when I lived somewhere else and I thought they were a great idea. And I’d rather see someone take my junk then have it hauled away to a dump.Lucky you with all that you found.

Jon - Huge find on the bike. Fuji was a great brand for a long, long while, and has kept a presence in the marketplace without the huge hype budgets as some of the american firms. You’ll like it.
Being that it’s steel, it’ll ride like a dream. Replacing the tires was a good start. Don’t forget to replace the brake pads, too. That and chain lube and you’re in business.

I love junk day!!! We have alleys behind our house and that’s where you put your junk. You can find some awesome things people don’t want, and that’s where we’ve put a LOT of crap! It’s amazing to see how fast it’s gone!
