Sun

We have sun. Two days in a row we have had sun. Its amazing. Its like the entire neighborhood is suddenly populated again. I saw people this AM that I haven’t seen in months. Crazy.

I had 3 fast miles this morning and was very pleased that I was on the road before 10 AM. Everybody and his brother was down at the running path this morning too. I saw two woman running with a kid on a bike following. They looked like serious runners.

Where the running path starts is what I think of as the town center for the neighboring town to ours, although Google maps places the center three miles away. Dumb Google maps. The town has changed so much.

The corner near the running path is a three way stop at the bottom of a hill. There used to be a Hardware store, a small grocery store, a post office, and a motel. The Post Office closed, the hardware store is now a run-down antique shop, the grocery store is some type of construction company office, and the motel is now a restaurant connected to the house by the train tracks from yesterday’s post.

I miss the little businesses that used to be in town. There’s one hardware store up in our town that is left. All the other old businesses are gone, replaced by CVS and Family Dollar. Oh, except Stewart’s. Stewart’s is a convenience chain that is famous for its ice cream. They are everywhere. There’s one in our town, and one across the tracks from the running path in the next town. You can’t swing a dead cat here without hitting a Stewart’s.

I have a full schedule today but I’m not sure what it is. The wife arranges these things. All I know is I get to eat breakfast and run. After that, I have my list. At least the weather is nice.

Enjoy your weekend.

I hear there’s a Wal Mart coming your way. That’ll fix everything, I’m sure.
