Summer Savings Time
Last December it was in the 60’s here. Now its April and we have another winter snowstorm bearing down on us. Doesn’t it seem like the seasons got shifted slightly? If this were February, nobody would be batting an eye. I say we make it February and save ourselves the embarrassment of having snow in May. Just shift the months and start over. We’ll all feel better.
I ran 5 in the snow/slush today. We had about half an inch of slush on the path when I started and the big slushy flakes were coming down hard. I was drenched after the first mile. Ofcourse, I forgot my bandaids. The shower was a joy, and sitting her now with that lovely burning feeling, makes me think I should go get the bandaids now to reduce the abrasion from my shirt.
I managed to change the oil in the truck yesterday. It disturbs me that less than a gallon comes out, even though I had just added some not long ago. I’m thinking I may be buying Motor Honey on a regular basis for this baby soon. I remember I used to run 20W-50 in my old Dodge Coronet with Motor Honey to reduce the oil burning. Even in the winter it still ran well.
I thought about Dianna’s marathon while I ran today. Its going to be a real sloppy mess for her. I’m sure she’ll do fine but its a shame that it won’t be more enjoyable weather. Its Boston for goodness sake. No sense spending the whole 3.5 hours with your nose wrinkled at the blowing snow.
The weekend seemed to fly by once again. I didn’t get much done. I still have cooking to do and I still have a million broken things to fix. At least the taxes are done.
I’ve been thinking about making a time capsule. Something to put together and leave behind after we’re all gone. I thought I should make it from a 6″ diameter PVC pipe. Cap both ends, but have a threaded opening on one of them that I can seal it up with after I fill it with stuff. If my life were ideal, I would find a large metallizing chamber and coat the inside with gold, to seal out moisture from migrating through the walls, then I would fill it with Argon before sealing. I think I could keep moisture and oxygen out for quite a long time like that. Might slow down the decomposition of stuff inside.
Things to put in? I want to find a way to put audio recordings in there. But that’s hard to do. Magnetic tapes will probably not last. We can try to put them in there, but I suspect they will be unreadable in 100 years. A record would be perfect, but will they have a player? A CD or DVD? Again, in 100 years, would there be a computer anywhere that would have a DVD player? Think about that. Victrolas were everywhere 70 years ago. How many people have one today? A few.
What about the digitally saved data on an MP3 player? If you take out the batteries, does the memory erase? That might be the answer. Someone in the future might be able to make an adapter to connect to the battery compartment with the right voltage and current, given the proper instructions. I could just do the DVD, CD, record, tape, and MP3 and hope one of them makes it.
I want to include text too. Stories about the family, life now, things that are happening and what I think about it. Kinda like a future blog. I think I will have to explain what alot of things are or else they might not understand what I mean. Ask an elementary school kid what the Berlin Wall is, and they won’t know. 100 years from now, some stuff might not mean a thing. I’m thinking the internet will be just like that.
What about stuff? What kinds of stuff? Money. Pictures. Seeds? Hair locks? New paper articles? I wonder what people would want to see. Maybe a digital watch. Don’t know.
PS
While I was eating lunch I looked out the window and saw a rabbit sitting in the snow and slush, soaking wet, eating a stick. I felt bad.

Do you have abnormally large nipples?
Are they more sticky outie than most?
Cause you sure go through a LOT of band aids.

Pam is so funny.
We had 82°F yesterday, the trees are budding, the grass growing, the birds singing…eat your heart out ;-)
I worry that we are going to roast this summer…
