A little more snow
I had my run in the snow this morning. We’ve gotten a few inches every few days and its begun to pile up in the woods. It was deep enough that I was sliding all over the place and in some places I went crashing through frozen leaves into a small puddle of ice. When it happened, my Yaktracks slipped off the sides of my shoes and I kept having to stop and adjust them.
When the snow is that deep, its alot of work for me to stay running straight and I just get wiped out, but I felt like I had a good hard run. The wind was pretty bad in some places, but at least it was sunny.
I did my upper body weights and am pleased that I’m moving up the weight amount still. Progress, on only once a week. I still think of Chris Brogan when I lift (easy, not like that) because Chris used to post alot about pumping steel and doing the superhero thing.
I saw our priest from church working out. I’m glad I didn’t see him in the locker room. That would have been awkward.
And something new has come up during running, but I’m not sure if I mentioned it before. My big belly. I haven’t had a belly while running before so this is new to me. I found that when it is really cold, the belly gets numb. If I put my hand on the belly after running in the cold, I can’t feel it. Its just numb with cold. In the shower, even the cold water felt hot. I’m not sure how to fix the frozen belly problem. An insulated cummerbund perhaps? I wish the belly would just go away, but until then I may have to deal with it being cold. And I hope it doesn’t get frostbite.
Today I’m baking bread, moving furniture, and making some casserole thing for a potluck at church. More fun food. :) I’m trying to cut out the cupcakes and gunk at work. People bring so much of it in and I have to keep myself away from it.
I remember being able to lose weight because I didn’t eat until I was hungry at lunchtime. Now I eat as a break from work and find myself eating lunch when I am not hungry. That’s not so good for me. 4 years ago I could lose weight without changing my eating much, but now that I am more sendentary at work, I need to cut out all the gunk.
Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Last year in CT about did me in, since I rarely got up from my desk. It was amazing how the weight fell off when I moved and started moving again. But it’s also about aging–the older I get, the harder it is to drop a few pounds :(

gah I hear you. gotta give up the gunk and get off my butt.
I had teeeny run today, there I was sweating away on the treadmill rocking out to my fabulous iPod when suddenly there she was, my older sister standing right beside me. I squealed like a girl and totally jump right off the treadmill!

Sounds like you are back in the game with running. Now just remember that you are a person who doesn’t eat cupcakes. When it comes to sweets your ONLY option is very high end chocolate because the other stuff is just soooo inferior (think this while looking down your nose. If you happen to notice that your belly protrudes then so much the better).

you have to try this alternative to yaktraks: http://www.skyrunner.com/screwshoe.htm
hope you lose the the bellybite issue soon.

For me it’s my boss’ candy bowl. Full of delicious, but not the good-for-you kind. I subvert the habit by putting a stick of gum in my mouth before I head in.. doesn’t always work, but it’s a start, right?

I can’t even imagine running through snow.
Its the same at work here - we sit at our desks all day and email the person next to us (rather than get up and walk over) and we also look forward to breaks when we eat! And when we are not eating we are talking baout eating! No wonder I run! I have to!
