Pimp my hair!

For about 12 years, the same woman has cut my hair.  She had just found out she was pregnant, which she told me all about while she scrubbed my hair the first time shortly after I arrived in Michigan.  She had bleached white hair and multiple piercings.  And I got the best haircut I had gotten since arriving in Michigan.

Now that I am back in NY, I have to find someone new.  Sniff.

So a few months ago I started going to various places to see how they did.  One place was in a strip mall and was the only place open.  Some young woman in what looked like a pink negligee cut my hair.  The negligee looked frantically tortured on her body, and my haircut matched.  $14.  Kill me.
The next place was Fantastic Sam’s near my office.  Nice clean place with loud, chatty stylists.  They did a really crazy amount of scrubbing when they washed my hair.  Either they thought I looked really dirty or they just liked doing it.  The haircut wasn’t too bad, but it was pricey for the job they did.  $16.

Then later I saw a GIANT neon sign that said HAIR CUTS FOR MEN!  I thought this was the place.  The salon was filled with sports stuff and a giant big screen TV.  Each station had a TV with sports playing.  They cut your hair first, THEN shampoo it, THEN they give you a shoulder and neck massage with this giant electric massage thing.  Very nice.  $14.  The haircut was so-so.

Tonight I was heading back to the HAIR CUTS FOR MEN place but the ice storm had killed the power at the mall.  So I went to another Fantastic Sam’s.  Monday is men’s day so only $10!  Such a deal!

Let me tell you, it was not such a deal.  My hair looks worse than I’ve ever seen.  It kinda looks like I cut it myself.  She spent ALOT of time scrubbing again (maybe I just look dirty) and spent alot of time making sure the back was cut right.  But the sides are dreadful.  I really liked this place because it was close to home and the girl who cut my hair was very nice.  And $10!  So tempting, but I think I need to move on.
So I continue in search of a good haircut.  While this one grows out.  About two months should do it.
PS

No gym tonight.  No power at the gym.  Last week, the whole fam damly was sick so I was the nurse.  Time to set up the free-weights at home.

I NEED to post about my bad haircut experience, which resulted in me storming out (less than graciously, unfortunately) and finding another place, where I paid an ungodly amount of money for a shampoo, cut and style. but I’ve been thrilled with my hair ever since.

Heck you’re cheap! I spend about $100 for mine but that’s cut, color and foils (highlights) plus tip.

I took me like two years to find my hairdresser and she’s worth every penny.

Nice to know men have the same problem finding someone good to cut their hair. But your first problem is being so damn cheap! You get what you pay for. Go to a real salon and get a real hair cut. Oh, and all that scrubbing is a scalp massage. That is my favorite part of getting my hair cut.

Or, you could take my approach and just accept that men with bad haircuts are the way God intended us to be.

Next time wear your nurses outfit and maybe they’ll cut it so you look prettier! Oo you could come and visit and be on my team with the mule, just as you are?

finding a new cutter really sucks! when they give you a real bad cut at the chain places they just tell you “at least it’ll grow out” and apply globs of gel and spray.

Are you in the city? My daughter’s boyfriend goes to “Neighborhood Barber” and everytime he does, he comes out looking like a million bucks.

It’s in the East Village. The address is: 439 East 9th Street. It’s on 9th street between 1st Ave. and Ave. A. The best way to get there is to take the L from 14 street/Union Square to 1st Ave and then walk down to 9th.

I was about to say: Don’t men go to barbershops? Wth? There is something wrong with a man going to a hair stylist! that’s your problem right there! (yes, you can call me chauvanistic!)
