Running? What’s that?

Its been a messed up week. Tuesday afternoon I got a call from home saying my Mom was headed to the hospital with numbness on her left side (here we go again). I drove over there and spend the afternoon with her and my sister in the exam room waiting for tests and results. Net upshot: they had no idea what it was.

So they wanted to keep her there to run an MRI and some sonograms to see if they can determine if it was a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which they called a “mini-stroke”. There were long delays in doing these things so she was there Tues, Wed, and Thursday night. Up every 2 hours to check BP and pulse. A hospital is no place to rest. Her room was two doors down from where Dad was with his stroke so that made it extra enjoyable.
I spend the nights with Dad at their house, and helped him with morning routines, and then would head over to see Mom in the hospital after work. They still have not verified what it was, so we are just assuming it was a TIA and going from there to modify lifestyles to reduce recurrance. They are having an addition put on the house and the builder asked if there was anything he could do to help. Dad said “Finish.”

So no running this week, but today I’m getting out there for 5 (I think). Trails with big loops. Its a bit colder today so that will be nice for running. I think I really like fall running. Leaves, sunshine, and a little cold. Hot weather just melts me.

A small race next week. Dianna is racing this weekend! Go cheer her on.

EDIT:

I KNEW someone else was racing Hartford today.  The Running Red Sox Fan!   Geez.  I totally screwed that one up.

Yuck that totally sucks, sounds like she is getting good care. It is hard being in the sandwich generation, isn’t it? Pulled from lots of different directions. Running will definitely help alleviate some of the stress, looks like a great week to hit the trails.

Hmm… sounds serious. I guess the sonograms you’re talking about are of her carotids. make sure those are done, because that’s something you can fix (surgically).

Listen to that Danny - he’s or surgeon or something like that (LOL) - what do stupid med students like me know?

Prayers with you and your family, and hopefully a speedy recovery to her.

Best wishes to your mom and family. Getting familiar with hospitals and nurses really suck. Run even if it’s just a few minutes to relieve stress and get rid of hospital smell.
