Its done.

Yesterday we bought the house. I think when I bought the other houses I was very happy after closing. This time? Not so much. Dealing with a rotten seller really soured my feelings about the whole deal. I don’t have time to write about the entire saga right now (and maybe I shouldn’t and I should just move on!) but I will get it all out there soon. In the mean time, I’ll put up some bullets:

  • The sellers? Rotten. Mr. Rotten, Mrs, Rotten and if there are little Rotten children, I’m sure they are rotten too.
  • The sellers lawyer? Ugh. An hour late to closing. No tie. Unshaven. Cheap looking sport jacket. Its possible Mr. Rotten found his name by randomly searching advertising in the tabloids.
  • The paperwork? New York State leads the nation in insane paperwork for a real estate closing. Every form must be in duplicate and each duplicate must have original signatures so you end up signing it all twice.
  • The closing? Took three hours. THREE HOURS! Every other closing I have been to has taken an hour at the very most.
  • The house? Stinks. I don’t know who moved the last of their crap out of the house but they smelled like they spent the day rolling around in an ashtray and then puked in it. Thank goodness for screens.
  • My attorney? Actually turned out to be a very nice guy. :)

The good news is that it is done and I can begin spending enormous amounts of money on repairs and cleaning up the mess left by Mr. Rotten.

I’m going running tonight. I don’t care if its hot, raining, hailing, earthquaking, tidal waving, or if giant chunks of rotten whale meat are falling from the sky. I going running dammit!

You nose must be werid because the house smelled fine to me…except the garage.

Oh, maybe thats why the houses in Oregon my parents bought only took an hour to close and Grandma was amazed with that fact…

Wow, what an intense experience, I hope you can get some good cleanser to get rid of the smells. I used some miracle cleaner that was meant for cleaning pet smells, but it was awesome. I got it at a pet store. Good luck, Jon!

Congrats on the house! At least the uncertainty is over- let the cleansing begin!

Hope your run was super- thought about you last night at County Park. A fellow runner passed me in the opposite direction and said “hi” and I thought that could have been, but wasn’t, the Chocolate Runner!

    Now, that’s the spirit!

hey, at least it’s over. It reminds me of the Doris Day/David Nivens movie, “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies.” Without the perky parts.

Congrats on the new digs! Too bad it was such a PITA to get the sale completed. We’re putting our place up right now and (crossing fingers) hope it sells soon and easily.

If they had a kid I’m sure his name was Johnny Rotten

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know what you mean (although not QUITE as much!!). All the enormous hassles and delays with our closing took SO much joy out of the process for us. We had such happy emotion built up, and then had it all washed away by our stupid buyer. It stinks, but AT LEAST it’s over and you can move on with your life!!!!

    Woo hoo!!!!!!!

Finally!! I’m sure that once you make it your own you will love it. The stench of the Rottens will soon be replaced with the sweet smell of Chocolate and happiness.

Hey, congrats on getting into the house. The last time I bought a house in NY, it only took an hour, and I had to correct my name on every document. They must have added a few documents in the last 15 years.
