9 days

9 days from now, I’ll be eating chocolate. Chocolate. I have no memory of what it tastes like, I’ve even avoided smelling it. But 9 days from now I’m going to eat it until I pass out. I’m very serious.

I need to start lining up the selection. I have some maple chocolate I bought in Hamilton that is definately on the list. I need something dark. I also want to order somethign from Bodega Chocolates but I don’t think I have time to get it and I’m not sure I should be spending the money. The classic truffle bars are the best damn chocolate I ever had. I could eat a whole pound right now.

I also want to buy a Scharffen Berger Nibby Bar. I must have one of those. Just a wonderful flavor and not too big, so there’s always room for a second bar. Its very dark and has bits of cocoa nbs in it. If you like dark chocolate, this bar is for you. Well, in 9 days, its for me. :)

What else…I don’t know. I know there’s a pile of them that I want to try. I need to go to Bella Vino and pick them out. I find they have a huge selection and lots of stuff I like. I need something with milk chocolate too. I don’t normally think of milk chocolate as all that special, but there are some that hav truly unique flavor that I must have some of in 9 days.

Speaking of Ann Arbor, I just found this website. For those that love Ann Arbor, do NOT go there. For those that are annoyed with Ann Arbor (the rest of the state?), have a look.

The taxes are done. YEA! A week early this year, I’m so proud of myself. Even have a small refund coming. I try to get the withholding correct so that there isn’t too much coming back and I don’t have to pay come tax day. I’d like it to be even. No sense letting the IRS hold my money for a year.

Still not running yet. I’ve got all the running stuff in the truck with me, and I’m itching to get back on the trails. Heck, I’d even take the ‘mill at this point (as long as I don’t have to shower with my lawyer again).

The next race? I’m thinking about the next one. I need another one. I want a 5K and I want to break that 7:00 barrier. Last year I failed to make it, but I came a small notch closer. This year feels better. I think I have the right stretegy on the trails. I read someplace about some world class runner that did almost all his training on the trails to save his legs for the big day. Its working for me I think.

Lara mentioned the Boilermaker, which is not a 5K but it looked like a good race. I’m seriously thinking about doing this one. The one drawback is that its in July. July. Hot. I don’t do well in hot races. When it gets above 60F, I start to melt.

I ran in the Road Ends 5 Mile Trail Run last year and that one was a great race. Nice trails and great snacks. I think I may do that one. Not a 5K but a good race anyway. I also ran the Trail Half Marathon which was another great race. They are both put on by the same group at Running Fit. I could run them both this year again except they put them on the same weekend! I’m not sure who’s brilliant idea that was but it really does suck. I’m pretty sure I could not run a half marathon the day after a 5 mile trail run. Bummer.

Hope you all are doing well.

I am feeling your pain. I don’t normally eat sugar, but allow myself a treat every now and then. This year I went the extra mile and quit even the potential for sugar by giving up treats for Lent. I started on St. Paddy’s Day. Needless to say, Easter morning may find me passed out with a straw, a box of pure cane sugar, and white foam around the mouth :-0
Hang in there!! 9 more days. You’ve done the hard part, now coast to the finish!

BTW- your Ann Arbor Link isn’t working for me…just me?

So, how much weight have you lost, Jon? :-) You’ll probably barf out at a much lower tolerance level than you originally had pre-Lent. Thanks for the link–strange and unfortunate to have those wacko’s associated in our profession. Friggin’ hilarious though.

The Scharffenberger nibby bar is my favorite chocolate bar of all time. Thanks for your encouraging comments on my blog, btw.

The eleventh commandment goes like this: Thou shalt not covet nor vomit excessive amounts of thy neighborhood grocery’s chocolate.

Boilermaker is a great race to run. Back in my youth, I liked to run either that or the Sauerkraut 20k during the summer.

I’m waiting on the taxes–I’m pretty sure we owe, since my wife is (was) self-employed.

I’m a little jealous. I suck. I totally started eating chocolate a week ago…it was IN the trail mix…but I guess can’t claim ignorance when I ate the chocolate cookies…that’s in addition to the chocolate I ate in Japan. I TOTALLY suck.

    Good for you.

Have you thought that MAYBE your long hiatus from chocolate may make it taste horrible when you finally DO indulge? I love kid’s cereals and I know that I poured a big bowl of Golden Smacks after finally coming off Atkins once and it tasted like pure sugar and milk!

I still ate half the box though! :-)

I’m totally jealous of your tax/withholding skills. My husband and I didn’t have our withholding right, and we owe money this year. Ow :(

I’ve heard lots of good things about Boilermaker, and 15Ks are kind of a fun distance. Although melting sounds not fun.

I don’t know how you’ve managed to last so long without chocolate. I won’t be mean and tell you about all the chocolate-filled things I’ve eaten recently.

    What! No chocolate bunny?
I’m very impressed that you’ve abstained from chocolate this whole time. My running coach also gave up chocolate for Lent, and I made sure to bring the chocolate girl scout cookies on a day that she wasn’t there. Lead us not into temptation. :-)

When I was a young girl in California, my mother always bought a from See’s Candies. I still think of that when I think of Easter.

A half-marathon after a 5 mile race, where’s the problem? Just run each a little slower, you’ll be fine.
