Hello?

Its been a while. Egads, I’m starting to sound like those bloggers that fade away into nothingness. That was my fear actually. I’d finally do the marathon and then just fall apart after that. Well I’m not! Dammit. Maybe. No! I’m not!

I ran my 10 miles yesterday in the woods. Not as cold as last time, although with one mile to go, the temps dropped about 10 degrees and there was this huge blizzard. It was like someone swung the front door open during a snowstorm. I couldn’t open my eyes while running, and staggered off the trail a few times. It was crazy.

The 10 went better than I expected. I was still not recovering very well this week, but I was able to pump it up for this run. My left hip hurt where it did during the marathon, which really bothers me, especially since it happens so early in the run. I’m hoping its due to the hills and stuff. And the hills from hell are once again just little bit ones now, so I’m happy to have regained what I’d lost since last year, albeit in a bit more pain.

And just let me say that Gmail has been a total turdface this week. Every once in a while it decides that my email notifications, from Wordpress about comments, are spam and it deletes them or blocks them or something. I love Gmail, but since its in a perpetual beta phase, it frquently does the big dumparoo. Sorry if I haven’t been responding to comments via email. I may need to switch my email account again until Gmail gets its act together.

Today I had an hour of crosstraining, but it got cut short to 40 minutes. I got to the gym late because I fell asleep again around noon and didn’t get up until 2:00pm. It felt good to get more sleep though. My sleep has been interrupted lately with back pain, and I suspect the snoring is not helping. All this really ruins muscle recovery from running as well. I did take the extra rest day last week and I think that has helped me catch up too.

Oh, and we are finally getting hi-speed internet. My wife has had it with dial-up and cannot get work done for clients with our lame phone lines out here. Cora on the switch board can’t seem to move those plugs faster than 28800.

So, now I need to figure out how to do that. I sent my request in to the cable people. The house has a cable line coming into it and going to the living room. We need cable in the office. Do I just run/splice the line myself or does that mess up the signal? And should I get a wireless hub and just broadcast to the computer? And what the heck do I put in the computers? I know I need a cable modem but what if I go wireless? Too many questions.

I know a trip to Best Buy would help, but the Geek Squad people act so stuck up and dicky, I hate to ask them for anything. I get that “Hhhhhhhhh!” sound of the hard exhale and the eyes rolling up, and the don’t-you-know-anything attitude. Wait til they hear I still have Windows 98. :D Heh, heh. That’s it, I’m totally blogging the conversation with them.

I’ve been trying to do more reading on the blogs this weekend. I’ve missed so much. I’ve been spending way too much time on blogshares again. Its alot of fun and keeps me from spending real money. I found I don’t eat while I play that, but do tend to dip into the chocolate while I read blogs. Go figure.

HEY! Just found your blog and enjoyed reading some of your recent posts. Not fortunate enough to have chocolate in the house, at least I was able to conjure up a fudgecicle after the craving you flung on me!

I’ve missed you. Glad you’ve posted. Keep all those little pains in check. I know it’s hard to do. Oh…and there was a woman in my swim clinic who has run 22 marathons. She said ATB is a great race (she’s run it 4 or 5 times). One year she said there was a blizzard so…you’ve got that covered! Be well.

I’m sorry, but for as much as you are online you didn’t have hi-speed internet??? I had no idea. You hid your little secret well :) though if you get it it’s going to feed the online addiction in a BAD way. i know from experience.

and gmail sometimes doesn’t load for me and today i couldn’t compose messages at home-but i could when i was at school. go figure.

Just wait…the high speed will get you blogging big time again. Great job on the 10 miles. I’m trying to work myself up to that again.

that sounds like an epic run. From a movie. Like Into Thin Air, only not exactly like that.

and guess what, i got wireless yesterday!! when a new tenant moved into the apt next door!! WHOOO HEEEE!!! Let’s see how long it takes him to realize i’m … poaching (?)…meanwhile, I have DSL via my phone line, and it was simple to set up. I can’t wait to cancel it though and live off the guy next door. But that would be wrong. wouldn’t it?

    What an epic run!

    Regarding high speed:
    1. Splicing cable is cake. Cut the coax, strip off a little bit of the center conductor, and screw on a plug. Connect in a splitter, tie on another cable, and pull it to wherever you need it. Feel free to e-mail or chat me up if you need help.
    2. If you’re getting high speed, getting a router is pretty much essential, as the router will have a hardware firewall, making your machines that much more secure. Setting up a router is easier than blogging. Likewise, feel free to ask questions.

Sheesh I wonder if Jank would answer all my questions? Good job on the run, I did mine on the dreadmill because I’m a wimpy weather chicken!

Good going on the 10 miler. Check with your cable provider first to make sure you have high speed service in your area before purchasing your hardware.

Hey, turns out you’re not that much behind the curve - From Here

    22% still on dialup
36% with no access at all
Of the 36% with no access, 27% of them don’t own a computer.

Welcome back! I’ve been wondering where you were!

Running in a blizzard sounds tough!

I think we bought a splitter for our cable modem. We have our desktop upstairs and then the whole wireless thing going on for the downstairs laptop. I’m sure my hubby would be glad to answer any questions you have about how we’ve got the whole thing set up. I can’t believe you have dial up!

I agree- I’m amazed that you didn’t have high speed until now. Think of the extra free time you’ll have to read even more blogs!

Hi Jon. Sorry I haven’t visited recently. Sounds like you still have a bad case of winter. I’m sorry. Opening Day is just 33 days away in Detroit. It can’t be that bad.

Gosh, I don’t know what you mean about not updating frequently enough….(/sarcasm)

We decided to forego the wireless in our house, because we have a teenager, and we want all internet access in a room where we can see it. We don’t snoop, but we want to at least have one eye on our daughter.

The thing I like most about running in the cold / snow is when your breath freezes on your eyelashes and they turn white! (we run in the cold a lot here- from Northern BC, Canada)

I have read for years that Chocolate improves mood, fights depression, etc. It seems like a natural way to reward yourself for working out. BTW, DSL makes the internet 100X better if you have a good company. I used to have Bellsouth DSL which is awful, since they have some kind of technical problem about 3X every week.
