The nurse-in!
Remember that woman that got kicked out of the Ann Arbor YMCA for nursing in the swimming area? Well, they had a nurse-in at the Y this weekend. Apparently it was pretty tame. The Y put out chairs for the women to sit on. The paper said there were signs and stuff and that said things like “Anytime, anywhere”. For some reason that one made me laugh. :D It doesn’t look like the Y will back down on their no-nursing-in-the-pool policy, but at least it made them aware of how important it is to some folks in the area. The paper said that most of the people in the nurse-in were not members.
I did my one hour of crosstraining today. Nothing terribly exciting. I spent most of the time reading my book “Emperors of Chocolate”, which is just fascinating reading. I’m going through the early life of Forest Mars, which apparently really sucked because his father, Frank was a total failure at business for the longest time and his wife finally left him (when Forest was very young) when he was so poor they couldn’t eat. She went to Canada and he married someone else and became really successful, eventually. Poor little Forest didn’t meet him again til he was ARRESTED for posting cigarrete ads all over downtown Chicago. His Dad bailed him out of jail. He worked for his dad until he got sick of him and left, and then his dad died of kidney failure 2 weeks later.
My microwave died this weekend too. The waveguide cover had a crack or something and I got this HUGE white arching going on while I tried to melt some butter. Fortunately I have this little tiny junkola microwave in the basement that works good in a pinch. I have the new cover on order (should be here Tues), so it all worked out ok. $15 for that little mica cover. Ouch.
I was melting the butter to make those cheese garlic muffin things that Alicat had on her site this week. They are super easy to make and came out pretty good. The butter is just brushed on so they aren’t all full of butter and fat and stuff. I used fat-free cheddar too. Good stuff. I only ate 5 of them before I went running on Saturday.

anytime. anywhere. i dig it. that is GREAT that those women did that. you can’t tell women they should breastfeed babies b/c it is better for their children-and then make them go sit in some sort of closet to carry out the act. that’s hardly a conducive environment that’s going to encourage women to breastfeed babies. again, good for them. thx for passing this along.

You know I’ve been thinking about what was going to happen over that nursing in public (N.I.P) display ever since you posted about it.
I hope you didn’t put the fried micowave in the basement?

I wouldn’t be able to eat lunch if my microwave broke - I have frozen dinners for lunch ’cause it’s way easier with a wee one around - also that way if she gets hungry, I don’t burn my food while feeding her.
Good on those women for doing the nurse in! Nursing in public CAN be done discreetly - unfortunately not every women wants to be discreet… Here in Canada many malls have put in Nursing rooms to accomodate us - I should take pics of them (of course with no moms nursing)!

No nursing in the freakin pool area. some of the bathing suits are more revealing for pete’s sake. I nursed anywhere anytime, it was real easy to hide it, if you catch my drift ;)

Jon, where in Michigan are you? Sounds like it might be Ann Arbor area from your mention of the Y.
I am in West Michigan, far more conservative than the east side of the state, and they had some sort of nurse-in last summer here. Can’t remember where. Fortunately for me I am past the baby nursing stage, but even when it was me, it wasn’t exactly something encouraged. All of my kids have been extremely healthy all their lives, so I have to attribute that to breastfeeding.
As for chocolate, I love it!
