Chocolate math

Here’s another fun chocolate game by Dawn. Thanks, Dawn!

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON’T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read …
Be sure you don’t read the bottom until you’ve worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it’s fun.
.
.
.
.
.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate
(more than once but less than 10)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
3. Add 5
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
4. Multiply it by 50 — I’ll wait while you get the calculator
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1755 ….
If you haven’t, add 1754.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
You should have a three digit number
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The next two numbers are
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
.
.
.
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2005) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

i just don’t understand how games like this work!! and i can’t believe you made me do math by hand. i haven’t substracted and had to carry numbers over in years. i was literally having flashbacks to third grade.

Since I am a math teacher I feel it is my responsibility to take all the fun out of all this.

First of all the equation is:

    50(2X+5)+1755-Y X=#of chocolates Y=year born

Therefore when I put in 1970 (year I was born I get the equation:

    100X - 35

Therefore the X immediatly puts your number of chocolates in the hundreads place and in the 10’s place 1755 minus year born will always reveal your age.

    Simple eh !

I refuse to read Aaron’s explanation and/or figure out the explanation for myself (there always is one, after all) because when you put CHOCOLATE and MATH together, Jon, it makes me want to marry you.

Next year, 1756 and 1755 will be subtractions.

Sometimes it sucks to be an engineer.

i’m so annoyed. i worked out all the math equations and also figured out that next year will work with 1756. i didn’t realize i wasn’t the only nerd out there until i clicked on the comments….

i want chocolate… (btw, did anybody choose a number other than 9??)

That stuff always amazes me. I don’t care how the math works, I just don’t understand why they want to limit the # of times per week you can want chocolate!

    You’re welcome Jon. :-)

Aaron and Jank - I love math but sometimes things are meant to be enjoyed and not analyzed…sheeeshhh. ;-)

Ok - since I did not properly read the directions and missed the (at least once) part, it told me I am 10 years younger. I will take that! Thanks Jon!!

ZOINKS!!! But I’ve had a couple of these lately that, despite my college education and my very careful calculation, haven’t worked. So some of these are right on, and some of these are bunk! But I knew in my heart the chocolate one was not bunk.
