Another day at the gym
Today was crosstraining day. An hour of sweating and trying to read the rest of Men’s Health this month. Lots of it is crap but some is interesting. I feel kinda funny when I flip to a page titled something like “Make her squirm in bed!” and there’s a big pic of some babe in barely anything lying twisted up in the sheets. I can just feel the dagger-laced stares hitting my back from the women on the ellipticals behind me. Flip the page - quickly!
My legs are pretty sore today, from yesterday’s long run and the crosstraining on Friday too. Since tomorrow is a rest day, I figured some good hard cardio was in order.
I was thinking more about my screwed up running form. How my leg rotates inward. The theory was that this was due to tight adductors, and that the abductors are too weak to fight against them, especially late in the run. But today I was walking down the stairs into my basement and realized I prefer to walk down them…well…sideways. With my right hip pointing almost forward.
Then I thought about why this would seem comfortable. Maybe its because my abductors is actually pretty strong, and I prefer to use that muscle to pull my leg forward (by rotating the leg) rather than use my quads or my…whatever the muscle is that brings you knee forward. Maybe its not an adductor issue at all but another muscle weakness. Using my abductors preferntially would certainly wear them out faster. I need to go find out which muscles do that leg/knee forward thing, and find the machine that works them. Maybe there is a weakness there too.
Lots of fun self analysis to make me feel like I am actually fixing something, rather than just getting out there and running every day. :)
Oh yeah, and the 17-pound challege? I am TOTALLY failing. I am now UP 3 pounds. Its not working at all. Lots of cardio and staying away from extras between meals does not work. Apparently, you can’t eat chocolate pumpkin muffins and extra left over turkey either. Dammit.

I have no idea why those women would be staring daggers at you. Articles like that are only trying to help, aren’t they? Oops…sorry about the weight gain…damn holiday season.

Muscle weakness or nerve interference testing is feasible with some orthopedic tests. So, if you like walking downstairs sideways on the right, try doing it on the left, the side that feels awkward. That ought to clue you in on some muscle issues. Anyway, I’ve seen bad things on my scale at home, too. I’ll just attribute it to water weight gain. Ha! Leftover turkey . . . GOOD & good for you. Choco pumpkin muffins = tasty and motivation for running in the cold! Jon, you’re doing far more than most up north in the freezing weather. Keep it up!!

I just have to ask! Why 17 pounds, why not 17.1 pounds or say an even 20 pounds or maybe just 16 pounds?? I guess if it has to be 17 pounds you could translate to the Canadian equivalent of 7.7112 kilograms or say an even 272 ounces.

Great talk about the Hersheys chocolate, my friend sent me a box of it from the States and we’re not talking as much now, lol.
N/M the pounds, if you think about it too much you won’t get on with enjoying these choco pumpkin muffins…sounds great!

I have to stop reading your chocolate report, I pigged out on sweets the whole weekend:-(
Your comment about reading the Men’s Health with “dagger-laced stares hitting” the back of your neck reminded me of a similar comment from a friend of mine. He had a simple solution: “Turn the magazine like you’re checking out a centerfold and then keep looking at the women like you are comparing them with the picture. Be sure to smile while doing this and make it look like there is a resemblance. They will either stop staring or will be flattered”. Hmmm…okay…

I’m happy everyone has enjoyed the muffins so far!! Hope you all had a wonderful T-giving or a special Thursday :-) My turkey trot was cancelled (darn Michigan lake effect snow) and I ate too much but other than that the weekend was great! Glad to be back to my own home reading my own bookmarked blogs!
Happy Monday all!

Enjoyed Chocolate Friday as usual, thanks! Bummer about the weight gain - one of the runners in my group has stopped running so he can gain weight for the winter to stay warmer so it might not be all bad.

You sound like me! I am constantly watching my legs, asking myself: what’s turning? why? what muscle? One day, we’ll figure it all out. I like Women’s Health and find it has the same intriguing articles:) Oh, except it’s the men squirming!

Jacks idea is hilarious. Why do the females in the gym care? Hmmm…
By the way, I found a swimsuit on line. I am waiting for it to get here. No where else to find one ~ bad time of year for that. Can’t believe I am talking about swimming….it is currently snowing in my neck of the woods! Brrr.

Hey, I’ve got you beat - 171 this morning, up 4 lbs, with 1 lb from Turkey Day.
Haven’t been able to do the read/bike thing. The pages keep flapping in the wind.

So if you’re trying to lose 17 pounds I guess you don’t want us Canadians sending you any more chocolate, eh??? I’m down 9 and still starving, I mean losing *crosses fingers*.
