On the road again

Today I had 6 miles in the plan, and this was really my first long run since the race. We had a few more inches of snow last night so the roads had several on them and they had a layer of packed ice below it, so I was doing a big of sliding out there.

Much nicer weather than earlier this week. Sunny in the upper 20’s, with no wind. Just beautiful. Apparently, other people thought so too because there were tracks on the road from other folks running. One had long strides and the prints were big so I think it was a guy (my old running partner from this summer?) and the other had Yaktrax like me, but the shoes were much smaller and the gait was short. I tried matching the gait but it was really hard at my pace. Either they had an extremely fast turnover or they were going at a slower pace. I think the Yaktrax runner was a woman and she was running with the guy.

I brought along the Dazer, but never saw any doggies near the road. I could hear Idiot and Tripod barking inside their house but they never came out to “play”. Shame. I was itching to give the Dazer a good warm up for the new season.

I ran 6.2 miles to give me a 10K for the weekend, but it was still not a race pace kind of day. It was alot of work to keep up the pace as it was. I was pretty tired and got that lightheaded feeling when I stopped again this time. I know I used up some energy dealing with the slipping and sliding but not that much. I am way out of shape, but I feel better than I did on Thursday.

I also found I am getting blisters from the Mizuno’s. The toe pocket is just too cramped now and I need to get some roomier ones. The Reebok’s are perfect for that but the mesh on the sides lets in the snow. I need a nice snow shoe for the long road runs on snowy days.

Friday I got in an hour of crosstraining at the gym. I watched a little bit of the remake of “The Longest Yard”. Not as good as the original, but it was nice to see Burt in there again. The Nike Brothers were in fine form yesterday. They hit the ellipticals, the treamills, and weights. The one guy dresses really sharp and I think he is a doctor or something. He looks like a doctor.

Last night I had the chance to make a batch of the DE-troit muffins that MNW posted. They are indeed delicious! So easy to make too. When I mixed it up, they had the consistency of oatmeal so I had to do some pushing with fingers to get it off the spoon. I used Ghirardelli dark chips, which are bigger than the semi-sweet, but they worked out fine anyway. The really good thing about this recipe? No eggs, so its ok to lick the bowl. :)

I totally lick the bowl, even with something that uses a lot of eggs. I know, terrible. But I do. And hey, I tried the Hershey’s with the blueberries and nuts (in your previous post) and I thought that particular bar was delicious. Then again, I savored one square per night, so it was a real treat and I ate veeery slowly, hehe. Today I bought a bar of the kind with the cranberries in it, and that one’s not as flavorful. Still decent dark chocolate, though.

I’m lucky if I can even find a bowl in my house…not good. There is snow on the roads here today too. I can’t find a decent shoe for these conditions either. And if you spell A LOT incorrectly one more time I’m going to PEAK!!!

Wooooee, what’s this about no licking bowls with eggs? I always make cake with eggs and lick the bowl. Yikes, will I get sick? oh no. I’m a hypochondriac you know.

Yummy muffins!! I was starting to think I needed new batteries in my Dazer but I got 2 dogs last night so I guess it’s still fine. The two most offensive dogs have an ‘impressive’ display of holiday spotlights on their house so they can no longer creep up on me unseen. Yeah!!

aren’t those things amazing? yours turned out to look better than mine did, but they probably tasted the same. i’ve got friends asking me to make more of them. and i’m craving them again, too.
