Race day! The BRPTT 5K!
Today I ran in the 1st annual Brent and Rachel (and Pippin!) 5K Turkey Trot (BRPTT). Since I couldn’t make it out to Nashville today, I ran it here in Michigan.
We had 19F temps and blowing snow. Bah. At least it was sunny by the time I got out there. I forgot how much I needed to bundle up for wind and cold. I kept walking outside and then walking back in to add other layers. Turns out I was way overdressed, with the exception of my Yaktrax.
The roads had been pretty beaten down by the cars, but it didn’t look like it had been plowed at all yet. I did my best to stay away from the cars while staying out of the snow bank. I was the only fool on the road today. I geuss everyone else is inside working on the turkey. I put mine in around 10:00, hoping for dinner around 3:30.
It was a hard run. The cold on my face was miserable and the rest of me was boiling hot. I ended up opening my jacket and then the cold air chilled me pretty badly. It was a mess.
But at least I got a cool race medal. :)
Needless to say, my time was not exactly my best race ever. 29:04. It may have been my worst as a matter of fact. I’m blaming the cold and my inability to follow my training plan in the very first week.
Hope you all are having a nice Turkey Day (for those in the US). Those outside the US, hope your Thursday is going well.

U guys got thursday as a holiday already? :) No wonder why the tri/runner blog community is quiet today.

Way to go Jon. Those conditions sound like what we normally have up here this time of year, but ummm we have no snow and shorts weather. Very strange

Happy Thanksgiving, I had a nice day at work thank you ;-) I have a half-marathon on December 3rd, I’m not expecting too much from this race either, the cold weather slows me down terribly. Maybe I can set a new PW - personal worst :-) It’s all about having fun, right!

57? What? Are you a fin tailed Chevy?
Good for you, finishing first in the race. I’m on the staggered start. I did an 80 minute training run yesterday but it hurt so much that I’m going to start over again Saturday. Aren’t virutal races the best? You can rewind and re-run if you don’t like your first time.

These kinds of races are fun! And the medal looks yummy, too. :)
I’ll probably be doing the same thing with the clothes over the next couple of weeks - we’ve got some drastic weather changes coming up.
