The next race

The studying is going well but today my cold has gotten the better of me and its hard to concentrate. So I was lying on the sofa thinking about races I want to do in the future.

Dances With Dirt (50K, 50 mile, 100mile relay) - Dawnie ran in this one and I have always wanted to get on a team but never had enough bribe money was cute enough was fast enough to do it.

Dexter Ann Arbor Run Half Marathon - I have run the 5K (where my 5K PR was run) but never the half (or the 10K). The food afterwards is great, but its kind of a repeat having done the 5K twice already.

Martian Marathon (1/2 and full) - I have done the half (my first half!), but it has moved locations now, so technically I haven’t. The full? Bwaahahahahaahaa! Very funny.

CRIM (1 mile, 5/8K, 10 mile) - Oh yes, the CRIM. Never ran this one ever.

Run Thru Hell (5/10 mile) - Not done that one yet either, although I think Dawnie has done that one too. Great T-shirt.

Running Fit Trail Half/Marathon - I ran the half and running it again could prep me well for DWD.

The New Haven Road Race - 20K - This was a fun race and if I’m in the area again next year, I’d like to go, but only if other RBF folks are there.

Then I have to look at where I want to go with my running. I don’t want to be broken anymore and I think I need to seriously address my form. Changes need to be made for muscle imbalances and stuff like that too. I’d like to run barefoot. At the same time, I feel like I can run my 5K faster and get a sub-7 pace, but if I switch to barefoot, I start over again learning how to run. I’m impatient and do not want to wait to get faster again - heck I don’t know how much longer I can even run!

Maybe this. I switch to my flats ASAP. Run in flats to get my form better, so I can work on eliminating the heel strike. Run my 5K to get my PR in flats in early spring (when its too cold to run barefoot during training), then move into barefoot and run my first 5K barefoot in June (Dexter Ann Arbor Run?). I think it would be so cool to run a race barefoot, even if my time will be slow for a long time. And chicks dig it, you know. :)

I’d also like to get my weight back down and get to the point where the handles aren’t there. I would need a really serious commitment to eliminating junk food and stopping the binge candy/chocolate eating. More green, less sugar, ya know? I think I can get down to 165 and hold there. I was at 167 briefly, and still had small handles, so a 165 base seems very possible if the handles are gone. Its just alot of work. And hard to do since chocolate season is now upon me.

This all depends upon what is going on in the rest of my life. You can make all the plans you want but somehow the rest of the world expects you to carry on with your job and family life at the same time. Geeeeeeez.

PS
By the way, you can’t get a patent on something that someone else invented (35 U.S.C. 102(f)) Is this patent law stuff simple or what?

umm isn’t that the idea behind a patent?
    To protect your inventions?

The DWD relay looks like a ton of fun and so does the Martian race! I’d love to do a relay some day, that sounds like so much fun!

    1. New Haven is on my list.
    2. One of my running buds said he watched a fasty girl he used to be able to keep up with recently. He saw her taking shorter strides with faster foot turnover. He tried it and did his usual nine mile run route in 20 minutes less than usual. Shorter stride and more foot propulsion at higher RPM = speed. I tried it too. My back doesn’t hurt as much and my heel isn’t the closest body part to the ground that strikes first.

I’m at New Haven. Granted, not nearly so exciting as having TRCWTOH, AA, Susan, Sarah, Michelle, etc there, but hey!

Hey Jon — don’t get your hopes up on the Hell T-shirt. You think it’s going to be all cool, but in reality, it is FUGLY. I ran it this summer (in part for the T-shirt) and mocked myself after. Though you do feel pretty bad-ass after finishing the course!
