Pictures

I found a few early shots from the marathon.

This one is of “Jon” from NYC that was in my pace group. He was a real riot out there running. I was waiting for him to break into some kind of marching chant with his drill sergeant voice. I think he is 58. We should all be so lucky to look like that at 58. I’d be lucky right now!

This next one is a couple of the guys from the “Green Team”. They all had the same outfit and shaved heads. They were running just behind or near the 4:15 pace group for most of the race. I think they ended up splitting up near the end when one of them had an injury. I think they stuck together for alot of it while he was hobbling along (with me) and maybe ultimately they decided to send the rest of the team onward. They had some running chants and were alot fun to run near.

And then there’s this one. You might recognize someone in there. Look for the flopping left foot as it comes up in back, left hip tilting down from weak glutes, right knee buckling inward because the shredded ITB cannot stop the rotation of the femur inward, and shoulders wincing in pain. I think a moment earlier in the stride, my right shoulder would have been tilting downward to compensate for the dropped hip on the left side (like you see on the guy farther back in the black shirt).

This pic was very close to the finish line so I’m actually jogging here and not walking. I had a hard time keeping my head up. I knew that it was key to keeping some kind of form, but I found that I would quickly drop my gaze downward as soon as I stopped focusing on it.

That picture really says 1000 words about everything that is wrong with my form. It has all the items that Karen and I found in my short video I took with her, and I felt the result of all those problems as the miles wore on. I think there is alot of work to do here before I’m ready for any long distance running again. Still need to exercise to keep the belly at bay, but the running may need to take a breather.

Susan - the one in the bottom left corner with the shirt that says “Jon”

For the record - that look is exactly what I felt like up until the very end …

I am sorry, but that guy is not no 65 years old. Maybe I am into older men!! Jon, I just finished an awesome ten miler this weekend. When I let my long distance races be half-marathons and ten milers, I had a lot more fun and a lot less pain. And the most important reward, you get there for the best food at the post-race party!

Wow, he’s 58! If that’s the case maybe I would give older guys a look. Nah, I’ll stick with my younger hubby. But still nice to look at.

    Great pictures!

I’d like to run Detroit someday. It must be neat entering Ford Field and running to the 50 yard line. I really must do it soon.
